The Role

We are seeking a Senior Academic Tutor to be based in the Creative and Media team. In addition to teaching and learning support, the Senior Academic Tutor supports the Creative and Media Programme Leader in the academic management and quality assurance of our Art and Design and Media provision across programmes while liaising with the other Senior Tutors across NTIC.


The main reporting line will be to the Creative and Media Programme Leader.

The Senior Academic Tutor (Creative and Media) is responsible for :

  • Preparing and delivering modules in the relevant subject area (either Art and Design or Media) to international students on programmes offered by the College.
  • Contributing to the development of Art and Design and Media modules.
  • Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process.
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance.
  • Providing, as and when required, academic leadership, management and coordination for a designated number of modules in the role of Module Coordinator.
  • This includes preparing module guides and updating module-related information for an agreed suite of modules, conducting module induction and standardization meetings with module tutors, organizing recording of oral assessments and selecting sample scripts for External Examiners.

  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of the College Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and facilitating student access to same.
  • Assisting with the production and quality assurance of mid-term and end of term reports for students.
  • Assisting with module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, delivery, marking and provision of feedback to students, acting as Chief Invigilator during examinations and coordinating marker groups.
  • Any duties as required from time to time by the College Director, Academic Director and the Programme Leaders.
  • Line Management responsibilities

  • Support the Creative and Media Programme Leader in the line management of sessional tutors in the Art and Design and Media subject areas.
  • Academic management responsibilities

  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the Art and Design and Media provision across all NTIC programmes, including organising cover for teaching sessions
  • Contribute to the appointment, induction, probationary review and on-going appraisal of sessional tutors including teaching observations within the Art and Design and Media provision
  • Provide guidance and support to module coordinators in the production of module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessments, marking and providing feedback to students
  • Provide leadership to the Art and Design and Media teaching team to ensure best practice in teaching and blended learning
  • Essential

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a related subject area, and preferably a Master’s degree or higher (or equivalent qualification)
  • previous teaching experience in one of the relevant areas of expertise or a related area within a UK higher education context
  • Experience and a positive track record of working with staff teams, evaluating performance and identifying development needs
  • A teaching qualification
  • Ability to develop and update teaching materials and experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment
  • Digital literacy skills including experience of delivering content through various media
  • Competence in teaching and administrative skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email, etc)
  • A student-centered and client-focused approach
  • A commitment to continuous professional development
