At CVS we are the largest integrated veterinary service provider in the UK, operating in excess of 495 veterinary surgeries throughout England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

These surgeries include seven referral practices providing first class specialist treatment and as of December 2019, we also own and operate around 25 of practices in the Netherlands & 3 in the Republic of Ireland.

Alongside our veterinary practices, we also operate diagnostic laboratories, pet crematoria, a successful ecommerce business, a veterinary recruitment agency, a preventative healthcare scheme (the Healthy Pet Club) with over 350,000 members, a veterinary equipment supply business and two buying groups.

We also have own brand pet foods, products and medications.

We have doubled in size in the last three years and have further expansion, development and diversification initiatives planned for 2019 and beyond.

In line with our continued expansion, we now have an exciting opportunity for you to join us in the newly created role of Purchasing Supply Director.

Reporting into the Director of Product, Buying & Logistics, you will be responsible for; effective supply chain management for all CVS sites and buying group members, the successful management of products both branded and own brand, to be supplied via our logistics site in Diss.

Achieving targeted metrics, such as cost savings and service level improvements with selected suppliers & internal / external customers.

If successful, some of your key accountabilities will include :

  • Having full responsibility of procurement of products from a selection of suppliers.
  • Day to day management of current and future own brand products with assistance and direction from the CVS Clinical Advisory Committees.
  • Analysing manufacturer and product activity to enable recommendations and developments that deliver competitive advancement.
  • Working with the Logistics Manager ensure the smooth and efficient supply of both branded and own brand products.
  • Look to develop and implement a process plan to create a comprehensive, efficient and cost effective distribution service to CVS sites and buying group members including the Netherlands & Republic of Ireland to increase this service level to 80%+ of current product purchases.
  • Ensuring the consistent delivery of agreed standards across all areas of responsibility, monitoring performance through KPI measures and regular business reviews.
  • Actively working with CVS' small animal, equine and large animal Clinical Advisory Committees (CAC) and utilising the feedback from these meeting to ensure the best prices are obtained for the products / equipment chosen by our clinical leaders at the CAC meetings.
  • To be successful, you will be able to demonstrate :

  • Proven experience within a procurement / buying / logistics role gained either within veterinary / animal health or a similarly related field.
  • Proven commercial acumen with strong negotiation and project management skills.
  • The ability to successfully manage a P&L and deliver EBITDA.
  • The ability to challenge the status quo', bringing a creative approach to business solutions that enables business advancement.
  • A proven record of success in managing performance and coaching / developing others.
  • Location : you will be based in Diss, Norfolk, however, travel to CVS or supplier sites and key CVS meetings will be required on occasion.
