    Overall Purpose of the Role

    Asa Big Data Platform Manager you will be responsible for the design, modellingand execution of data solutions upon Big Data Platforms across the entire Cards& Payments and Barclaycard International business units.

    Thiswill include solutions for UK, US and Germany geographic locations. You will beresponsible for the management of organisational processes andsystems that acquire, analyse, organize, distribute, and use the informationwithin the business.

    Therole holder will provide solution, platform & infrastructure support for thetransformation of data solutions and reporting within Cards & Payments,taking the organisation from a data reactive entity to a data led one.

    You willhave experience of supporting a globally diverse function with a good understandingof Hadoop open stack, Data Platform & Components, Data Models &Architecture, Data Governance & Controls, Data Acquisition, datamonetisation & Insights, Technology Functionality, Contract Management andCapacity Modelling.

    Youwill create a deep engagement with the business & technical stakeholdersacross the senior management of Barclaycard International Business Unitshelping to develop the business’ approach to business insights and intelligencein order to achieve deeper understanding of customers and creating actionableinsight.

    Therole holder will continue to develop data solutions including the design anddelivery of data integrations, analytics and actionable Insights solutions andproducts.

    The role holder will have a strong background in open source stackand data management Apache tools such as spark, Hive, impala, Kafkha etc andwill have a deep understanding of with sufficient knowledge to advise on futureroadmap, best practices, and optimization.

    Therole holder will have an awareness of emerging Big Data & Data Warehousingtechnologies and strategies consistent with clients' business strategiesincluding prioritizing, preparing and implementing Big Data architecturalimprovements and data management solutions, methodologies, strategies andarchitectural improvement plans.

    Therole holder will work closely with the other Data & Strategic AnalyticsTeams to implement and deliver solutions which maximise all of the technologiesavailable.

    Main duties and responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with strategicbusiness teams across Barclaycard International to understand requirements thendesign and develop Big Data models and architecture to meet required needs
  • Lead efforts to ensure that data drivenactionable insights becomes a source of competitive advantage and enabler of strategicbusiness plans
  • Develop and champion research and reportingas an aid to drive business decisions and measure their success thus ensuringthe company is truly customer centric and helping brands grow through smarteruse of data and analytics supporting business decisions and actions
  • Ensure performance of underlying Big Datainfrastructure is modelled efficiently to support the business with their frontend data solutions
  • Maintain the correct balance between tacticaland strategic Big Data solution delivery, to meet business urgency andpriorities
  • Integrate pieces of pertinent information to integratenew Big Data solutions
  • Report and help maintain strategic integrityof data across the company; helping monitor the usage of data, identifying keysegments and customers, ultimately ensuring the quality and usability of dataisn’t compromised
  • Provide a gateway to data for all teamsacross Barclays International, ensuring consistency of data and a golden andaccurate source.
  • Leverage existing platforms across controls and mobile toshowcase the right data at the right time and in the right place

  • Manage risk and control across the Big DataPlatforms
  • Ensure the work within DASA is recognisedexternally, building and creating a brand for the team, in order to become recognisedglobally for success (such as awards, conference and externalchallenges / hackathons)
  • Help to define and lead the strategictechnical direction for data
  • Thisis a challenging role for a driven and motivated individual, providing realaccountability and exposure opportunities within the business.

    Basic Qualifications

  • Experience of supportinga globally diverse function with a good understanding of cost rationalisation,strategic sourcing, technology functionality, organisation modelling, contractmanagement, and capacity modelling.
  • Demonstrate expertiseof leading client engagement teams that design and develop data and strategicanalytical solutions, predictive models for data warehouse (DW), informationmanagement architecture, including : -
  • Evaluating enterprise data architecturefeasibility, risk and technologies related to business change

  • Evaluate, identifyand recommend Big Data solutions based on multiple internal / external sources ofinformation that relate to business stakeholders' requirements;
  • undertake in-depth data analysis andprofiling, apply interpretive thinking model and design information swiftly

  • Analyse &evaluate complex processes and performance from business and technicalstandpoints; and the impact / cost of data changes on business and / or ITprocesses;
  • Awareness ofemerging Data Warehousing (DW) technologies and strategies consistent withclients' business strategies including DW architectural improvements, datamanagement solutions, methodologies, strategies and architectural improvementplans.
  • Identify subfunction data synergies and will seek to leverage all data design &modelling across C&P.
  • Partner closelywith other Ops and Tech and wider Barclaycard International teams to innovateand lead test and learn activity to implement and deliver Big Data solutionswhich maximise all of the technologies available and improve competitive edge.
  • Forge across thegroup negotiating terms for delivery and will have the responsibility forsupporting audit closures and regulatory reporting.
  • Key contributor onBarclaycard Internationals Data Governance, policy and standards implementation.
  • Maintaining thereporting services and frameworks across each functional area through a lens ofagile change and continuous improvement.
  • Ensuring each data solution is fit forpurpose and aligns to the overall Barclaycard strategy for open source and bigdata adoption

  • BCs in computerscience or related degree
  • Have extensiveexperience leading Big Data Technology, Data warehousing and data monetisationprojects or products
  • Have and extensiveunderstanding of data warehouse architecture and data platforms includingTeradata, Oracle, SAS, Hadoop and no SQL databases.
  • Experience of ETL andbusiness intelligence tools and a functional understanding of financial data isalso required

  • Is comfortable ininterpreting and presenting all types of information (including complex data)and strategic recommendations at all levels of an organisation
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Has excellentplanning and organisational skills
  • Has a proven trackrecord of delivering using Agile Delivery Methods including Jira and Kanban.
  • Has a strongcommercial awareness and customer focus
  • Has excellentorganizational, written and oral communication skills, a collaborative thinker,interactive listening with the ability to conceptualise and solve businessproblems
  • Has strongnegotiation & personal skills to manage both internal senior stakeholderdemand, key customers / merchants and external data tool suppliers
  • Has a proven track record of working across avariety of insight areas delivering outstanding analytical outputs whichconceptualise and solve business problems
