At the core of our work are published, audited Regulatory Financial Statements (RFS), which display our profitability in markets where we’re deemed to have significant market power (SMP) by Ofcom.
To produce the RFS, our experts have to gather a wide range of financial and non-financial data, and perform complex activity based costing analysis.
We work with colleagues all across BT to understand our underlying commercial performance in the SMP markets, and the drivers for movements in key cost and asset groupings.
The RFS is Ofcom’s main source of information on BT’s profitability in SMP markets, and can significantly impact regulatory pricing in these markets.
If the RFS is found to contain errors or inappropriate methodologies, BT could be subject to significant reputational or financial damage.
As part of Competition Finance, you would be responsible for ensuring that the RFS meets both BT’s and Ofcom’s quality standards.
To support this, the Analysis team is responsible for understanding and explaining the drivers of regulatory profitability, and liaising with other departments to validate our results before publication.
In particular, the team is responsible for owning the detailed methodologies that we use to produce the RFS, including identifying and implementing new methodologies.
What you'll be doing
We will train, support and empower you to deliver the following key responsibilities :
You’ll own revenue calculation and cost attribution methodologies for one area of our regulatory reporting. You will use your knowledge to review and validate our revenues and cost attributions, identifying any errors or divergence from our published methodologies.
You’ll take ownership of our published regulatory results for your area of expertise, and be responsible for clearly explaining them to key internal and external stakeholders.
You’ll lead delivery of some of our key RFS production processes , requiring little supervision to coordinate internal and external stakeholders.
You’ll be responsible for methodology changes , including identifying potential changes and determining how to implement them.
You will be responsible for explaining how and why a change has been made, and the impact on the RFS, to senior internal stakeholders and Ofcom .

We want you to understand the underlying logic behind our methodologies, so that you can both identify and articulate the big picture and also address complex points of detail .
We want you to be output focused , ensuring that your work is delivered to a high standard in line with regulatory reporting deadlines.

We want you to understand the importance of our controls framework , drive adherence and further enhancement to this framework, and clearly document the work that you do .
We want you to work collaboratively across the Competition Finance team , assisting and learning from other experts.
We'll also need to see these on your CV
Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent) with 2 years post-qualified experience.
Strong analytical skills and a knack for problem-solving.
Great communication skills to explain your work to non-subject matter experts.
Experience of working with large, complex datasets.
Record of independent delivery of key outputs and process improvement.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, and experience with other Microsoft Office applications.
