About the opportunity Our Water and Environment Business Unit provides a focus for advising our clients on River Engineering and Flood Risk Management solutions including flood defence structures, weirs, gates, sluices, flood storage reservoirs, natural flood management, habitat creation, hydrometric gauging facilities and fish passes.

Our integrated Water Environment team comprises in excess of 400 staff based in the UK and Europe, but with reach into the Middle East, Australasia and America.

To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Hydraulic Modeller in our Bristol office, one of our UK centres of excellence for modelling and an innovation hub for hydroinformatics.

You will be responsible for originating complex or innovative studies and guiding and reviewing the work of more junior staff on a range of hydraulic modelling studies.

You will support a variety of studies across flood risk management and reservoir engineering for major infrastructure projects in the UK and potentially overseas.

The successful individual will be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of hydraulic modelling across a range of applications and will have the necessary skills to provide mentoring and development of staff.

About you With a track record of delivering large and complicated pieces of work you are a technical leader with experience of managing people and project delivery to maintain high levels of performance.

Happy to take ownership of your own and your teams performance you are comfortable delegating work, reviewing others work and ensuring high standards of delivery.

An innovative thinker you strive for continual improvement. You are commercially aware with a strong understanding of the UK water and environment sector and the requirements of working in fast past consultancy.


Here’s What You’ll Need :

  • Undergraduate degree (2 : 1 or above) in in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or a related discipline
  • Chartered with ICE or CIWEM
  • Extensive experience in implementing 1D and 2D modelling techniques for river, urban and coastal flooding applications.
  • Excellent knowledge and practice of Flood Modeller and Tuflow software
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills
  • An inclusive manager who works effectively as part of a diverse team
  • Experience of staff management and development
  • Excellent literacy, communication, analytical and numeracy skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience of liaising with clients and managing projects
