Job Title : Estates Officer

Salary : £45,000 Defendant on experience

Hours : 37.5

Location : 60 Grove End Road, St John’s Wood, London NW8 9NH

We are looking for an experienced Estates Officer to join the Estates and Facilities Department in our Charity Led Independent Hospital.

The post holder will be Responsible for the effective delivery of Estates & Facilities management, ensuring the provision of a high quality, value for money portfolio of non clinical services in a safe and sound environment for patients, staff and visitors.

If successful you will be responsible for ensuring the Hospital’s Estates & Facilities services comply with all regulatory and statutory legislation.

In addition it will be the responsibility of the post holder to be able to develop best working practices. In addition to this you will provide professional leadership and maintain effective staff management across the department.

This would be an ideal post for an experienced estates officer, preferably from a healthcare background, although candidates from other industries would be considered.

Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, The Hospital of St John and St Elizabeth is one of the UK’s largest independent charitable hospitals.

Profits are used to fund our on-site hospice, St John’s, which offers free care to over 3,000 patients and their families every year

  • Minimum City & Guilds level 3 / ONC in Electrical or Mechanical Discipline or equivalent
  • Recognised Health and Safety Qualification
  • Attained AP status in Medical Gas Systems and / or Electrical Low Voltage
  • 5 years supervisory / management experience and responsibility in a large complex organisation.
  • Experience of contract management and negotiation with range of suppliers
  • Management of a diverse workforce
  • Experience of policy writing
  • Experienced negotiator with a range of contractors
  • Experience of successful management and implementation of minor works & capital projects
  • Knowledge of all statutory requirements relating to estates in a healthcare or similar environment
  • Knowledge of current statutory and other technical guidance
  • Resilient, flexible personality capable of inspiring confidence
  • Ability to problem solve and provide practical solutions
  • A proven record of achievement with an ability to deliver against deadlines
  • Leadership & motivational skills with ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Knowledge of the Health & Safety at Works Act, COSHH
  • Review systems and processes across all relevant functions in order to improve efficiencies.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective procedures and policies
  • Direct and influence a customer focused culture within the team
  • Support the Director of Estates & Facilities with the management of complex property projects
  • Ensure robust contractual arrangements are in place with key providers
  • Professionally manage the Estates & Engineering function to ensure the highest quality and value for money services
  • Support the Director of Estates & Facilities, develop and maintain the estates & facilities Health and Safety policy
  • Participate in Hospital committees, such as the Health and Safety Committee and Water Safety Group
  • Ensure that the Hospital’s estate, buildings, plant and equipment are maintained and all new schemes carried out
  • Ascertain the Hospital’s backlog capital requirements, space utilisation, functional suitability, physical condition and statutory requirements, including fire and environmental management
  • Performance reviews of the team
  • Deliver projects on time and within budget
  • Make regular visits to wards and departments and health care areas in conjunction with local heads of departments to monitor services provided by
  • Act as Authorised Person responsible for medical gases and low voltage electrical systems
  • To carry out Contractors’ Inductions
  • Develop appropriate risk management plans
  • Responsibility for ensuring safe working practices throughout the Hospital
  • Understanding and implementation of current DOH, Hospital Technical Memorandum (HTM) and Hospital Buildings Note (HBN)
