Job Description

Bank psychological therapists will provide patient and family psychological support across all sectors of Cancer care which will include face to face and online, bereavement, out-patient and ward based work.

Bank psychological therapists will play a key role in the holistic care provided by a multidisciplinary team including medical, nursing staff and other healthcare professionals

  • Duties & Responsibilities

  • To offer an evidence-based approach to the psychological needs of Cancer patients at all points of their cancer pathway (diagnosis, treatment to survivorship or palliative care.
  • To provide input to enable Cancer MDTs to offer a psychologically informed and compassionate approach to delivering optimal patient outcomes.
  • To consult to all members of the MDT to allow a holistic approach to physical care in terms of overall process and individual patient care.
  • To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of patients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
  • To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.

    Skills & Experience

  • PGDip training in counselling or psychotherapy
  • Accredited with BACP or other recognised counselling professional body
  • A minimum of 3 Years’ experience as a counsellor
  • Counselling experience in acute outpatient settings
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for patients’ psychological care and treatment as a professionally qualified clinician
  • The successful applicant’s offer is subject to relevant DBS, Occupational Health and Reference Checks respectively, alongside standard Right To Work Checks.
