Pertemps are recruiting for a Security Officer to support our well-known Public Sector client based in Edinburgh.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Security Officer to ensure and maintain the security, safety and integrity of all organisation buildings and to provide a safe and secure environment for all staff and visitors.

Pay : £20, 434 per annum

Hours : Average 37 hours per week over a 28 day shift cycle - rotational 12 hour shifts (7.00am to 7.00pm and 7.00pm to 7.

00am) over a 7 day pattern, including weekends.

Assignment : January 2022 for 6 months

Location : Based at central Edinburgh location with possible requirement of working at alternativesites in Edinburgh.

Main Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Patrol and secure the multi-site buildings to ensure any intrusion, flood or fires are prevented and / or detected as soon as possible.
  • Monitor CCTV systems as appropriate, assisting in preparing footage for any CCTV investigations in accordance with the organisations CCTV protocols.
  • Adhere to and apply all Security Control Room and out of hours reception procedures including the verification and issuing of identification passes to all visitors and contractors at reception.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency evacuations of the building, applying Security Room procedures and relevant security, alarm, fire, bomb, safety and evacuation procedures.
  • Support Visitor Experience staff in dealing with emergency and conflict situations.
  • Conduct regular checks on fire doors, intruder and fire systems and building plant and systems to ensure correct and safe operations, reporting any defects or potential hazards as necessary.
  • Respond at all times in a courteous, respectful and professional manner when dealing with visitors, staff, contractors and members of the public.
  • Supervise all aspects of contractor activity on site, including security, safety, misconduct, damage to buildings or collections, and ensure the validity of Hot Work permits.
  • Provide assistance for all received mail, including goods and artefact deliveries as required, particularly at weekends and out of hours.
  • Undertake a limited range of cleaning and housekeeping duties where appropriate at Key Control and the Control room or in other specified areas.
  • Ensure that vehicular access for emergency service vehicles is maintained wherever possible, and permit emergency vehicle access as required.
  • Commit to good health & safety and access practice and ensure familiarity with the organisations health & safety and access policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Essential Skills and Experiene :

  • Proven relevant experience working in a security environment and in dealing with incidents / situations requiring an immediate or timed response.
  • Knowledge of reception duties / access control for staff, contractors and visitors.
  • Good knowledge of security, fire, intruder and CCTV systems and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of Health and Safety at Work procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and positive when dealing with a wide range of enquiries and situations
  • A good telephone and radio procedures manner to deal with enquiries and requests for assistance
  • Basic administrative and IT skills in Word, Outlook and Excel are desirable.
  • First Aid Certificate is also desirable.
  • A current Basic Disclosure is an essential requirement for this position.
