Exciting opportunity to work in R&D in innovative biometrics on-the-fly EU project

The Department of Computer Science within the School of Mathematical, Physical and Computational Sciences (SMPCS) conducts world leading research in priority research areas of Data Science and Computational Science.

Within the department, the Computational Vision Group (CVG), led by Prof. Ferryman, addresses the computational issues of perception and reasoning in relation to image interpretation.

Prof. Ferryman is a partner in EU Detecting Document frauD and iDentity on the fly (D4fly) a 3-year EC H2020 project funded under the Secure Societies work programme (border security and external security), and which commenced in September 2019.

A key aim of D4fly is to build an advanced on-the-move biometric-based person identification system.

The main role of the D4fly PDRA is to undertake biometric research and development for EU D4fly.

Specifically, the main duties and responsibilities for the Grade 6 role :

  • Research, develop and evaluate biometric functions for future automatic border control; specifically approaches to one or more of the following : presentation attack detection (PAD) for iris, differential face morphing attack detection (MAD), multimodal data fusion.
  • Programming in relevant language (e.g. C / C++, Python, Java) on PC / mobile devices
  • Contribute to the writing high impact outputs (publications) including journals
  • Active role in project related activities such as data collection, integration and demonstration / trials and evaluation
