Legal Knowledge Engineer Team : Central Knowledge Management

Reports to : Director of Knowledge and Information Architecture

Purpose of job : Working as part of the Central KM team to deliver KM systems services to an internal audience, and support the delivery of selected services to clients.

The KM systems team provides services covering Document Automation, Search, Intranet, DMS, Experience Management and Closing Sets.

This role will focus primarily on delivering Document Automation services using Contract Express to automate internal and client facing documents (approx.

85% of time), and the role will include delivering services in other areas from time to time and being involved in projects to develop new systems and services (approx. 15%)

Key responsibilities :

  • Automation of single or multiple documents, publishing these via a dynamic online questionnaire
  • Application of logic and rules to ensure that fee earners documents are produced with the correct content and formatting
  • Ensuring all templates adhere to BCLP’s consistent approach to automation (naming conventions etc. and all templates and output documents are in BCLP’s house style)
  • Maintenance of existing automated documents
  • Participate in KM systems projects as business lead / KM subject matter expert :
  • Legal knowledge search and Intranet
  • Closing sets development
  • Experience management
  • AI knowledge extraction and analysis
  • Key relationships : Principle customers of automated documents are the Firm’s Knowledge Development Lawyers (KDLs) and these relationships will be key.

    Also, other key relationships include :

  • Central KM team
  • IS development team
  • Innovation, Process Improvement, BCLP Cubed
  • Experience and knowledge Essential :

  • Experience of automating documents using Contract Express, preferably gained in a law firm (or legal department)
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (2010 / 6), particularly Word and house style applications
  • An understanding of the structure, complexity and organisation of legal documents (e.g. contracts)
  • A keen interest in the future direction of legal technology systems.
  • Enthusiasm for document automation and a pride in the quality of the output from the system
  • Desirable :

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to use logic to solve complex problems
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Extremely high attention to detail and the willingness and patience to consistently spot and correct errors (your own and those of others) until a perfect outcome is achievedTravel Occasional travel between Manchester and London required e.
  • g. 6 times a year. Possible limited international travel.
