The role

The Action For Children Youth Housing First Service provides a tenancy and outreach support service to the most vulnerable homeless young people in Dundee.

The aim of the service is to enable young people to live independently while reaching their full potential..

The service will be delivered on an outreach basis embracing the needs of the individual while supporting them to live independently and encourage them to become active members of their community.

As a Young Persons Worker you will work in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies to develop and deliver holistic tailor made individual support packages to young people

You will make a difference by :

  • Maintaining effective working relationships and channels of communications with colleagues and with young people and families and where necessary encourage and promote involvement to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Being alert to child protection and safeguarding issues and inform appropriate line managers of concerns in line with safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Participating in regular supervision sessions and practice meetings to maintain a cohesive approach and undertake training as identified.
  • Maintaining the hygiene and the cleanliness of all working areas, internal and external. Including kitchen and bathroom areas
  • Ensuring familiarity and compliance with relevant Action for Children policies and procedures and work as part of the Dundee Youth Housing Service team
  • Working towards GIRFEC outcome and comply with Health and Social Care Standards and the SSSC Code of conduct
  • Enabling young people to develop independent living skills and sustain tenancy.
  • You will need :

  • Knowledge and awareness of methods of prevention of homeless intervention.
  • Knowledge of the issues and barriers facing young adults who may at times lead chaotic lives.
  • Knowledge of disabilities and how this affects individuals.
  • A driving license and use of a car is desirable
  • Are qualified to or willing to undertake SVQ3 Social Care.
