Role purpose and overview

This position will be responsible for supporting and facilitating the delivery of HR services and initiatives to ensure everything we do is aligned to the business’ overall strategy in association with the Editorial team.

The HR Advisor will partner with Editors and journalists and support employees by providing comprehensive and pragmatic HR advice in line with policies, procedures and legal requirements across the following disciplines :

  • Talent Development
  • Performance, Reward and Recognition
  • Employee Relations
  • HR Analytics and Insight
  • Talent Development

  • Work alongside HR Business Partners and in partnership with Editorial management to ensure talent pipelines are in place through succession planning and talent mapping, ensuring career development opportunities are in place for high performing and high potential employees.
  • Performance, Reward and Recognition

  • Actively support the annual performance management cycle and key processes that reinforce the importance of continuous and honest feedback;
  • coaching employees to take ownership for personal development.

  • Support HR Business Partners with the annual pay review process; including the facilitation of performance benchmarking meetings.
  • Provide guidance in line with the reward strategy to ensure fairness and consistency with any reward decisions.
  • Employee Relations

  • Ensure that the relationship between the organisation and its staff is managed appropriately within a clear and transparent framework underpinned by organisation practices and policies and ultimately by relevant employment law.
  • Proactively manage formal and informal employee relations (ER) issues, whether individual disciplinary, grievance and redundancy cases or the larger scale ER aspects of a change management programme with the support of the HR Business Partners .
  • Ensure that all Company policies are kept current and in line with market trends and changes.
  • HR Analytics & Insight

  • Use HR metrics such as turnover, exit interview feedback, sickness absence and recruitment spend to monitor key performance indicators, identify trends and implications for the business.
  • Work in partnership with HR Business Partners to ensure an efficient and commercially focused approach is adopted in when discussing and facilitating decisions around new hires, leavers, and staff changes.
  • Requirements

    Essential skills required for the role

  • Demonstrable experience in an HR capacity with a good understanding of fundamental disciplines of Talent Management, Reward and Employee Relations.
  • Broad knowledge of employment regulatory framework.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous situations and provide clear / best fit solutions.
  • Good negotiating and influencing skills, adept at handling difficult situations or challenging individuals to gain positive and constructive outcomes.
  • Able to work in a busy, fast paced team-oriented environment.
  • Highly organised and efficient with excellent attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
  • A dditional skills useful for the role

  • Experience of working within a newsroom and editorial environment
  • Experience of building a relationship with a recognised Trade Union
  • Ideally CIPD professional level qualifications.
  • A good level of editorial or TV production awareness would be highly desirable
