To meet our growing UK business needs and future development aspirations we are looking for a Senior River Engineer experienced in the development of outline and detailed design flood risk solutions, project appraisal and project management to join our expanding multi-

disciplinary team in Birmingham, becoming part of a respected and ambitious company with excellent career prospects and international opportunities.

You will be leading projects for the Environment Agency, Lead Local Flood Authorities and work with other disciplines within the group to deliver projects for major infrastructure clients.

This is a key role in the expansion of our river engineering team in London. Your responsibilities would include :

  • Carrying out and coordinating outline and detailed design of flood risk management solutions.
  • Surface water drainage design.
  • Appraisal of flood risk costs and benefits.
  • Technical and business case reporting.
  • Liaising with clients, hydraulic modellers, architects and other design team members.
  • Assisting with project management and multi-disciplinary design coordination.
  • Essential :

  • Civil Engineering or earth science (with a flood risk specialism) degree and approaching MICE, or similar, status.
  • Enthusiastic about solving problems.
  • Prepared to innovate, finding new and improved ways to contribute to project excellence.
  • Passionate about customer care.
  • Keen to expand your technical capabilities and apply your skills across different sectors.
  • The ability to analyse information and to present this logically and accurately in reports or verbal presentations.
  • Experience using GIS software such as MapInfo / ArcGIS / QGIS.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages including Word and Excel.
  • Experience of Safety in Design and Designers responsibilities under CDM.
  • Experience in the development of outline and detailed design solutions for flood risk management.
  • Experience in the design and appraisal of structural and non-structural flood mitigation measures.
  • Experience in preparing business cases for flood risk management schemes.
  • Contract and specification preparation.
  • Proven ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary teams in the development of design solutions.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team, liaising directly with clients and other design team members.
  • Proven track record of presentation to an audience of varying technical capabilities (public, clients, technical specialists etc).
  • Ability to communicate with clarity both verbally and in writing. Desired :
  • Chartered member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
  • Construction related experience either as a supervisor or through visiting design office support role.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic modelling packages used for mitigation option appraisal.
  • Experience of urban flood mitigation design.
  • Preparation of business case reports to Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) guidance processes.
  • Relationships with the relevant statutory bodies , Natural Resources Wales and SEPA.
  • Experience of GIS software.
