Specialist Speech & Language Therapist Adult Community Neurorehabilitation, Band 6
There is an opportunity for a part time (0.8WTE) B6 SLT (neuro specialist) to join us in the Greenwich Community Neuro-Rehabilitation Team for 12 months, working with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders.
We are ideally looking for an experienced Band 6 (or equivalent) SLT who now wants to work in the community to develop their existing rehabilitation experience, however we also welcome applications from Band 5 (or equivalent) SLTs looking for their first Band 6 post.
This post will enable the successful post-holder to develop their skills across 3 caseloads :
3. Community SLT (domiciliary visits for people with non-neuro diagnoses primarily dementia)
As this is a community post, it is essential that applicants have a valid driving licence for use in the UK and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes, for which business mileage is paid.
As well as individual therapy, the Speech and Language Therapy team offer group therapy as required. Certification in Lee Silverman Voice Therapy is desirable in prospective applicants.
We have access to video fluoroscopy at the local acute care hospital, and independently carry out instrumental assessments as needed for our clients.
Experience working independently in assessing and treating people with dysphagia is essential for this role. Experience working in the community would be a distinct advantage.
Our multidisciplinary Neurology and ESD team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, a Clinical Psychologist and a Community Matron.
The team works with clients in their own homes and in care homes, providing community assessment and therapy input to clients with recent stroke, brain injury or long term neurological conditions.
Our team strives to empower people to live independently and to improve their quality of life. Through joint working with Social Services the team aims to optimise health and social care provision for clients in the Greenwich borough.
Our service actively encourages ongoing professional development. We offer regular clinical supervision and access to relevant courses to support you in developing your specialist interest.
We organise frequent continuing professional development. You may have the opportunity to be responsible for appraisal, development and supervision of other staff.
You will need to be a versatile, adaptable team player who has good organisational skills. You will be required to use multiple computer systems therefore a good knowledge of IT is essential.
