Catering Manager

Salary : c£32-£35k, plus excellent benefits package.

Location : Willenhall (West midlands).

Shift pattern : Initially Monday Friday 09.00 17.00 however flexibility in the working pattern will be required once the Canteen is fully operational.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Catering Manager to join our Central Services team on a 12-month fixed term contract.

We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated and customer focused catering professional to lead, develop and implement a new canteen facility for our Willenhall depot-based colleagues.

The depot is a National Distribution Centre and Head Office facility, comprising c800 colleagues with depot operations running 24 hours per day.

Initially reporting to the Supply Chain Director, you will be responsible for recruiting and developing a catering team and establishing the appropriate food service offering to accommodate the needs of our depot-based colleagues, alongside full P&L responsibility for the canteen.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience of running a catering establishment, and managing a catering team and budget, obtained within the hospitality / catering sector.

Key accountabilities :

  • Developing a food service offering to cater for all shifts and menu planning
  • Recruiting, training and managing a small catering team
  • Identifying and purchasing any equipment required to deliver the food service
  • Working with the Group Technical Manager - Food Safety to ensure compliance in the food service provision
  • Working in collaboration with Proposition colleagues to develop product ranges to exploit market trends and seasonal opportunities
  • Ensuring team members are up to date with HSE and COSHH requirements
  • Managing the cleanliness of the kitchen and food service areas
  • Monitoring the quality of the food service provisions and service
  • Developing and managing team rotas and staffing requirements
  • Stock ordering, management and rotation
  • To achieve and maintain a level 5 food hygiene rating by; implementing and complying with food management systems and recruiting and developing a catering team
  • To proactively manage any people management issues including absence management, disciplinaries, grievances and performance management
  • Key knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications required :


  • Previous experience of running a food service provision / catering establishment within the hospitality / catering sector
  • People management experience within the hospitality / catering sector
  • Experience in the production of high quality and high volume food
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of food hygiene requirements
  • Financial acumen and budget management experience P&L experience
  • High level of commercial acumen
  • Ability to work under pressure and in a busy environment
  • Ability to plan and prioritise
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Desirable

  • Experience of setting up a new food service provision would be advantageous
  • NVQ Level 2 / 3 in professional cookery or equivalent
  • Basic or Intermediate food hygiene Level 2 / 3
