Role Summary

Due to business growth, we have created a brand-new Customs Compliance Officer role. The person in this role will be an SME in Customs Compliance and will ensure that we meet the required Customs legislation and authorisations and that these are adhered to.

You will be a key point of contact for Customs related matters and will work closely with colleagues across the business and provide company-wide support and direction, as well as with our clients where you will be involved in attending and participating in meetings.

The location of the role is dependent on the successful candidate, and we are looking nationwide.

What you will be doing

Compliance

Oversee and manage Customs compliance activity, with regards to the movement of products, equipment and materials to and from the UK in accordance with company core values, policies and procedures, HMRC regulations and applicable laws.

Oversee and manage internal and external Customs audits, ensuring that the correct application of Customs procedures is adhered to and report where necessary, whilst maintaining and updating all relevant Customs authorisations.

Oversee and manage all special status / simplifications held by the business.

Responsible for all Customs classifications and regulatory requirements including licenses, certificates etc.

Oversee and manage a robust records system for import and export documentation (tax declarations etc) in compliance with company and HMRC requirements ensuring easy and complete access of files.

Assistance

Work alongside the Head of Service Delivery Freight Forwarding.

Be business partner for leadership teams, supporting strategic ambitions and initiatives.

Respond to requests for Customs Compliance services from internal and external clients while providing effective and efficient solutions to facilitate adherence to operational and service deadlines.

Provide a high level of customer service, attending client meetings where needed, and deal with all queries quickly and efficiently as well as provide advice and guidance on procedures.

Interface with clients and colleagues and provide updates and resolve queries around the Customs clearance process as well as direct liaison with Customs authorities such as HMRC and other agencies.

Work with colleagues to help streamline operational efficiencies whilst maintaining excellent customer service.

Monitor the quality of the Customs processes, creating and monitoring KPIs and developing SOPs.

Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Business Development.

Identify opportunities for developing value added services for customers.

What we are looking for

Skills & Experience

Excellent communication skills.

Translating Customs observations into language that the rest of the business understands.

Strong in-depth knowledge and understanding of import and export controls.

Strong Customs clearance experience.

A solid understanding of tariff classification of goods.

High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to use initiative.

Self-motivated, who is highly organised, able to multi-task.

Able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.

Flexible and proactive approach to work.

High level of integrity and commitment.

Good IT skills.
