POSITION SUMMARY

Thermo Fisher seek exceptional leaders with strong general management skills and a depth of packaging and distribution experience who have the drive and determination to take responsibility and drive performance for the betterment of the business and customers.

The General Manager leads the site’s leadership team and will collaborate with peers across the Division, leveraging the assets of the entire network for the good of the business.

The General Manager is tasked with driving operational performance and leading a team that meets client needs in a timely and effective manner, creating high levels of customer satisfaction.

The General Manager will harness the vision and site assets to maximize current and future opportunities for the business and customer in order to deliver growth, market leadership and profitability goals.

Performance will be delivered by leading and collaborating with the senior leadership team to deliver the technical capability and outcomes with the highest degree of positive customer experience whilst also ensuring compliance, quality and profitability.

This role balances the strategic aims with operational realities in terms of growth, competitiveness, differentiation, customer centricity, and people leadership.

The General Manager is the link : the one who orchestrates the sites’ overall performance and is responsible for thinking and acting above site level as to influence the best overall outcome for the global enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Own full P&L responsibility of the 500 employees at the Horsham site.
  • Responsible for the day to day operations including manufacturing, packaging and distribution.
  • Coordinate the activities of planning and supply chain in order to satisfy client needs in terms of quantity, timetable and delivery methods.
  • Primary focus should be on customer satisfaction including quality, on time delivery (OTIF / OTD) and right- first time performance.
  • Lead / Build a high performing leadership team
  • Generate and manage change while driving executional excellence.
  • Operate with a high level of innovation and creativity to develop solutions to customer needs.
  • Manage and measure key operational and financial performance indicators; track and report performance versus objective on a daily / weekly / monthly basis.
  • Ensure the formulation and the proposal of the overall budget for the plant.
  • Maintain compliance to SOPs, Batch Records, quality standards, and safety practices.
  • Ensure all products manufactured meet all regulatory, corporate and customer requirements for quality, safety and efficacy.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies during inspections and on quality issues.
  • Interface with customers on quality, regulatory, technical and business issues.
  • Accountable to take corrective actions for all production deviations.
  • Direct and provide organizational leadership and ensure personal development, retention and attraction of critical people assets.
  • Responsible for hiring and training plant employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees;
  • and addressing complaints and resolving conflicts.

  • Develop and maintain profitable relations with the site clients, in order to guarantee a constant support to the search for new business opportunities.
  • Drive compliance process improvements and goals for the site using current regulations and best-demonstrated practices.
  • Candidate profile

  • Overall operations experience in the pharmaceutical production environment. Clinical trials or distribution experience considered a plus.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, preferably with an MBA or equivalent. Candidates who have experienced a commercial secondment are highly sought after and preferred.
  • Recognised as a hands on individual who can drive operational excellence from a ground-based perspective.
  • Experience working with a focus on talent development and building high performing teams.
  • P&L / General Management in addition to site leadership experience.
  • Excellent working knowledge of GMPs and GDPs.
  • Frequent interactions with Senior Level Leadership internal to corporation as well as with Regulatory Agencies and Customers.
  • International experience is a plus as exposure to fast-paced, developing, dynamic organisations with a culture of quick decision making.
  • Bachelor / Master’s degree in a scientific field, such as Chemistry, Pharmacy or Engineering.
  • Preference for Master or additional qualifications
  • Fluent English speaker with additional languages as a plus
