The Rail team is seeking an Electrical Associate to lead teams delivering electrical building services designs for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings across the UK.

Our team continues to grow rapidly and offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate to thrive and build upon recent project successes.

A typical week would include :

  • Design of electrical systems within stations and other buildings in the Railway environment.
  • Design of station earthing and bonding requirements in the presence of 25kV OLE systems.
  • Design of earthing systems for low voltage systems.
  • Design of low voltage reticulation and distribution systems (230 / 400Volt) including UPS sources and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Operation of Amtech software to produce design for low voltage systems including selection of cable types, protective devices and self-checking and presentation of results and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Design of general lighting systems and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Design of emergency lighting systems and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Operation of industry standard lighting design software for the design of general and emergency lighting systems.
  • Design of cable management systems (CMS) including trunking, tray, and conduits and the preparation of CMS sizing calculations, self-checking and presentation of results and checking such designs produced by others.
  • Completion of Designers Risk Assessments.
  • Presentation of designs on schematic and 2D layout drawings.
  • Managing the interface of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Heath) design with the wider team, communicating MEP requirements that have an effect on the wider design, and interpreting the impact of other discipline design on MEP systems.
  • Preparation of specification and materials and workmanship documentation in accordance with the Employers requirements and checking such documentation produced by others.
  • We'd love to hear from you if you have :

  • A passion for delivering railway infrastructure enhancement and upgrade projects.
  • Experience of supervising, managing and developing technical staff and the delivery of MEP design services to budget while managing trade-offs between technical and socio-economic factors.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or qualifications and experience satisfying the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC) at C.
  • Eng level or other equivalent qualifications acceptable under the Professional Qualifications Directive.

  • Qualification in the requirements of BS7671 (e.g. City & Guilds Requirements for Electrical Installations (2382).
  • An excellent working knowledge of BS7671, BS5266 and BS1838.
  • A good understanding of BSRIA BG06 Design Framework for Building Services; managing the delivery of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Heath) design at Feasibility, Concept and Detailed Design Stages;
  • A data driven mindset with a good understanding of BIM and the benefits it provides.
  • Experience of being accepted as nominated CRE by Network Rail for Electrical and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Public Heath) design up to GRIP 5.
  • Understanding of Network Rail’s GRIP process and other Engineering Assurance procedures.
  • good working knowledge and understanding of Network Rail and London Underground standards applicable for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings.
  • good working knowledge and understanding of the Network Rail and London Underground assurance process as well as the requirements of each design stage in accordance with the GRIP, Pathway and similar processes.
  • Working Knowledge of Fire Alarm systems, Building Regulations requirements and other industry standards related to Building Services (i.
  • e BREEAM, Electricity, Safety Quality and Continuity Regulations (ESQCR) etc).
