TCV, is looking for an exceptional Operations Leader to develop and manage a team of staff and volunteers in South London.
Working in partnership with the Land Trust and local authorities, this role will be responsible for the leadership of an Ecology Park and Amenity Park (in Greenwich) and 3 Local Nature Reserves (in Southwark), which deliver a range of community and education based activities as well as a programme of large scale volunteering events.
The role also manages TCV’s WildSkills trainee programme in the South region, working alongside a Senior Project Officer and 3 WildSkills Trainees.
The ideal candidate will have experience of developing and leading a successful, high-performing team and also the vision and enthusiasm to be able to generate new business across the wider South London and South East area.
We are looking for a strong, highly motivated and capable leader who can be at the forefront of such an approach, managing a team of locally based staff to work with local communities and achieve optimum results in terms of quality, operational performance, financial performance and adherence with contract and funder requirements.
Ideal candidates will have experience of community volunteering, land management for wildlife and working with partners and funders to develop new activities and a strong track record of financial and people management
This post will be based in our current offices in London (John Street near Kings Cross) and will be 35 hours a week, 9am-5pm Monday to Friday with an hour for lunch.
Some evening and weekend working may be required to cover external meetings and events. Travel to your sites will be expected during the week for meetings and ad hoc operational support.
This role is part of the South TCV Regional Management Team.
More specifically the South London Operations Leader will :
Lead a team of 12 staff across South London and surrounding area focused primarily on TCV activities at 4 leased Local Nature Reserves (LNR) and 1 amenity Park.
The LNRs are Dulwich Upper Wood, Lavender Ponds, Stave Hill (all in Southwark) and Greenwich Peninsula Ecology Park (in Greenwich), and the amenity park is Southern Park (in Greenwich).
Activities include volunteer events educational activities, community engagement and corporate volunteering days.
The team also undertakes a range of works on a contractual basis, mainly across Greenwich and Southwark. Turnover for the team is approx £375,000
In addition to being able to lead a high performing team the ideal candidate will have an understanding of managing open access sites in an urban setting.
They will also have knowledge of the ecological principles required to balance the conflicting demands placed on the sites and still provide a high level of biodiversity and natural environment value.
The ability to spot opportunities and build partnerships, whilst keeping to budget and managing a range of essential resources to ensure that staff within the team can deliver a safe and effective programme of volunteering is also required.
