About the role :

To develop and lead a new design studio concept and team members with the objectives to transform Thames Water’s learning offerings from a traditional face to face training method to a fully blended suite of training solutions.

Ensuring that all learning meets the needs of all learners, taking into consideration learning styles, technical capability and business priorities to develop high quality best in class blended training.

Ensuring that training solutions are enhancing self-development and ownership in line with the 70 / 20 / 10 model.

Overseeing the creative design and development of material by team members and external contracts, if required, to deliver a range of training solutions and knowledge management offerings.

Designing and managing an effective process to take a business requirement into the best fit learning solution.

Working within predefined design principles and considering employee and business impact whilst ensuring delivering within budget allocation.

Reviewing current and future training development requests from learning consultants and business stakeholders to develop and implement a blended learning roadmap and project plan to deliver requirements in an agreed timely manner.

Challenging and offering alternative solutions as required.

Creating a learner lead organisation promoting work based, collaborative and social learning.

Overseeing the enhancements to the LMS Platform Learning on Tap to ensure meeting current and future requirements.

Objectives will include :

  • Blended learning transformation To lead the transformation of Thames Water’s current and future training offerings into a fully blended solutionEnsuring that learning is creative, engaging and effective for all learning styles.
  • Providing best in class, cost effective training in line with business prioritiesConsidering ROI of all training interventions and challenging the need for formal training v alternative methodsTransform learning to a 70 / 20 / 10 model moving away from traditional fact to face learning but supporting managers and employees to develop in the workplace in line with competency frameworks and training requirementsCreate and implement blended learning principles to be incorporate to all learning solutionsUse a range of technologies and solutions to develop a learning lead culture of self-development, continuous learning and developmentDevelop communities of practice and knowledge management principles to encourage a you find rather than we tell methodology

  • Design Studio creation To create Thames Water’s Learning Design Studio from concept into a fully operational, effective department to deliver the blended learning transformationTo identify the skills required within the Design Studio to enable to transformation of learning and resource team members accordingly to ensure delivery of the blended learning plan within required timescalesTo recruit a team of creative designers to deliver blended solutions and develop internal team members in the required skillsAs required source external resources / contractors to deliver training solution, managing the relationship and the delivery of the blended learning to the required standard.
  • Develop a buy v build assessment process to understand the capabilities of current team

  • Blended learning plan Deliver a blended learning roadmap and detailed project plan in line with business prioritiesDeliver the project plan in line with Learning consultants and business stakeholder expectationsDevelop a process to capture learning requirements for business areas, analysing the request and working with Learning Consultants to understand full requirements.
  • Recommending and delivering the correct solution for the need, the business and in line with learning budgetReview current requests to identify learning solutions and priorities and feed into road map.

    Creating a realistic blended learning plan and challenging non effective learning solutions.Work with relevant learning consultants and SME’s to scope requirements and develop learning solutionsCommunicate blended learning plan and report on progress against roadmap / project planImplement evaluation and ROI process for learning solution in line with LMS functionality

  • LMS Management
  • Work with digital and external partners to understand the current and future capabilities of the system
  • Team Management Recruitment of Design Studio team. Review and realignment of existing internal team membersLine management of Design Studio ensuring delivery of blended planCoaching and development of team to ensure a range of skills and knowledge to cover all technical and blended requirements
  • External benchmarking and technology review Keep abreast of learning technologies and ensure that blended learning solutions designed and delivered are in line with best practice and technologyRecommending and introducing new learning concepts and principles into learning solutions to ensure best in class
  • Stakeholder engagement Work closely with Learning Consultants and Training Managers to understand business requirements and priorities.
  • Engagement across Thames Water to obtain buy in and commitment to a blended learning 70 / 20 / 10 approach

    To be successful you will have the following skills and experience :

  • Strong L&D background
  • Creative expertise and experience
  • Blended design and delivery digital capability
  • Experience in designing e- learning Articulate / Storyboard 360
  • Knowledge Management experience
  • Social and collaborative learning experience
  • Building a team - recruitment and skills identification
  • Team management coaching and development experience
  • External contact management and spend negotiation. Training budget management and cost control
  • Project management and resource planning
  • Communication and engagement with senior stakeholders.
