Job Description Summary

We are looking for a reliable Business Rates Administrator to undertake administrative tasks, ensuring the team has adequate support to work efficiently.

The tasks of The Business Rates Administrator will include submission of appeals and supplementary documentation to the Assessor’s office, reporting appeals and settlements to clients, providing monthly reports to clients and applying for and monitoring relief applications to local finance offices.

The ideal candidate will be competent in prioritising and working with little supervision. They will be self-motivated and trustworthy.

The Business Rates Administrator will be responsible for setting clients up on our internal systems, carrying out credit checks and submitting and monitoring fees to clients.


  • Submission of appeals to the Assessor’s office and monitoring acknowledgement of appeals.
  • Preparing citations and creation of court lists for individual Valuation Appeal Committee hearings.
  • Managing deadlines for submissions of grounds and comparisons for VAC hearings
  • Reporting settlements and monitoring client instructions
  • Preparation of cases that proceed to VAC Hearings.
  • Applying for and monitoring relief applications with local finance offices
  • Setting up clients on our internal systems and carrying out credit checks
  • Issuing fees and monitoring bad debt
  • Requirements

  • Proven experience as an office administrator, office assistant or relevant role
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills
  • Familiarity with office management procedures and basic accounting principles
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and office management software
  • Knowledge of the Scottish Rating system is preferable but not essential.
