Why this role matters

BT Group Tax is a large and dynamic tax team, accountable for all taxes, covering tax compliance and reporting, as well as tax advisory support to the BT businesses.

The Tax Manager Global compliance, reporting and assurance will play a key role in our team, working with senior colleagues covering a broad range of international tax matters.

The role offers giving significant opportunities to learn and develop.

What you'll be doing

You will support Senior Managers who cover global trading and contracting, global tax reporting and internal capital management and global assurance.

You will focus on transfer pricing, withholding tax and the global aspects of group tax reporting, linking closely with colleagues in BT’s Treasury team.

Global tax compliance work is outsourced.

Specific responsibilities include :

Transfer pricing

  • Draft the Transfer Pricing Master File
  • Support overseas finance teams and regional tax managers with transfer pricing audits, working with local advisers on the details of transfer pricing models
  • Support in the implementation of accounting standard changes for the transfer pricing model
  • Withholding tax

  • Working with regional tax colleagues, calculate the Group withholding tax provision in relation to intra-group trading transactions, identify WHT payments made during the year, and obtain documentation for the same for the UK tax return
  • Compile and maintain a database of WHT rates for trading transactions between Global entities and BT plc for the various internal trading transaction categories
  • Interaction with Treasury team

  • In conjunction with Group Treasury establish cash repatriation program, actively working with regional tax leads and regional tax managers to minimise tax costs of cash repatriation
  • Manage UK treaty clearances for inter-company loans
  • Operating monthly process to monitor tax hedging position
  • Tax Reporting

  • Co-ordinate inputs on international tax aspects of group reporting (eg loss recognition, WHT on future dividends)
  • Implementing and managing compliance with DAC 6
  • We'll also need to see these on your CV

  • Fully qualified accountant
  • Good knowledge of financial accounting (Knowledge of International Accounting Standards beneficial)
  • Basic knowledge of OECD transfer pricing principles
  • Basic understanding of tax treaties and mechanics of withholding tax
  • Ability to effectively communicate with both junior and senior colleagues and stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritise conflicting work demands from multiple stakeholders
