This role will take the lead in providing in-depth technical expertise to the Managed Cloud operational teams, and for owning the overall technical design of the full suite of IFS Cloud services and driving operational excellence in the teams supporting them.
This includes designing, developing, deploying and maintaining new and existing services and tools to enable IFS to further drive the reliability and efficiency of its Cloud Operations platform at scale.
The platform, which runs on Microsoft Azure supports an ever-growing range of products to satisfy the ERP, EAM, FSM and other technical needs of businesses small and large around the world.
Although not a role with people management duties, the selected individual will provide technical leadership to our operations teams spread around the world and additionally to their peers in our Sri Lankan and Swedish development teams on product, tooling and automation topics.
Work with our stakeholders on the design of secure, scalable, highly-available and resilient business systems running in the Azure cloud environment
Ensure that all our systems can be managed effectively at global scale, across hundreds of production instances and achieving operational excellence through best of breed tooling, methodologies and services.
Work closely with the Cloud Operations team and key stakeholders to define strategies, principles and primary standards for our Cloud solutions ensuring consistent design and implementation in a standardized way across all our services.
Reviewing, and taking input from, a variety of sources customers, sales teams, consulting, operational teams etc to define and prioritize requirements and enhancements to the IFS Cloud Services portfolio and across IFS through collaboration with IFS R&D product teams.
Analysis of the current Cloud offerings, in conjunction with operational teams, to identify opportunities to further optimise the solutions for example, as it relates to performance, capacity management, security etc.
Continuously developing the solution design to maximise efficiency and to leverage new and improved 3rd party capabilities where beneficial
Defining and continuously updating permissible software versions and mandatory patches for 3rd party products upon which IFS solutions are dependent.
Ensuring these software components remain supportable and fit for purpose, including appropriate patches or configurations to protect against critical bugs or vulnerabilities.
Input to standards for sales and consulting teams to follow when selling, implementing and supporting IFS products in the IFS Managed Cloud
Supporting operational teams by exception. For example, to provide senior technical input for incidents, support for Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and relevant follow-up resolution.
Investigating and recommending improvements to operational processes to improve efficiency, automate routine tasks and adopt industry best practice.
Internal and external communication, discussions, and presentations related to IFS Managed Cloud
Act as a Subject Matter Expert for all Azure design decisions and deployments within the Cloud Platform and Services.
Work with the documentation team to ensure suitable documentation is produced for all cloud services and tasks, including where relevant our service Catalogue, SOPs and architecture diagrams.
Work with the Cloud Automation team and with product development architects to drive their future usage of monitoring in a direction consistent with the cloud operations approach to ensure future product updates work well with our monitoring strategy and tooling choices
Provide training, support and guidance to the Cloud Service Center operations teams in using and maintaining the deployed Cloud Services
The above are the core duties of the role, there are many other duties all along similar lines
Minimum of 5 years working in a production cloud or large enterprise IT environment supporting the required technologies.
Minimum 3 years of operations, engineering and technical architecture expertise across the full Azure platform including any combination of IaaS, PaaS and tooling.
Minimum 3 years exposure to industry standards in and around baseline Security principles encryption, authentication, authorisation, integrity, auditing, pen testing etc and how these are applied in a cloud environment.
