We are seeking a Systems Integration Consultant to join our System Engineering and Integration team within the wider System Engineering and Assurance (SESA) group.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with a desire to help solve complex system integration challenges for our clients.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a clear commitment to continuous professional development. With a focus on enhancing their knowledge base around System Engineering, Systems Thinking and related areas, developing their capability as a system engineer.

You will have knowledge of rail infrastructure projects and across the project lifecycle. Experience of the rail industry (e.

g. its operations, timetabling, standards and codes of practice) desirable. We are looking for candidates with the ability and desire to make a difference, who will embrace turning challenges in to opportunities while being held accountable to standards beyond the norm.

A typical week would include :

  • Leading an area of system integration as part of a larger project, or be solely accountable for delivery of a small System integration project
  • Working within project teams, potentially embedded within client organisations. You will be able to take responsibility for elements of team delivery and play a role in supporting more junior colleagues within the project team
  • Managing stakeholder relationships across a potentially diverse set of stakeholders from design engineers and project managers, through to sponsors, civil servants and operators.
  • You will be able to adapt your communication approach to suit the specific needs of the stakeholder

  • Being proficient in the application of core elements of our SI : D3 framework, namely : Migration state definition and planningDefinition of benefits and stakeholder goalsRequirements and interface managementDevelopment and use of system architectures
  • Having experience in the application of other areas of SI : D3 namely : Development of integrated schedules and plansManagement of System Integration Risk, Assumptions, Dependencies, Issues and Opportunities (RADIO)Governance
  • You will have experience in some systems engineering tools and ben able to define the benefits and appropriate use of these tools
  • Typical Non-Project Role Requirements :

  • Act as a mentor to junior colleagues, coaching and inspiring them to develop as systems engineers and consultants
  • Supporting the SESA team leaders as required across their responsibilities of recruitment, resource management, personal development and pastoral care
  • Potentially act as a line manager for up to three members of the team, role is dependent on experience and desire to take on added responsibilities
  • Support development of our team through contributing to internal development of our SI : D3 framework
  • We'd love to hear from you if you have :

  • A degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience in applying Systems engineering and Integration on complex projects, including use of tools to aid communicating complex problems simply and robustly
  • Railway experience and understanding. You will have the understanding to consider the railway as the system of interest, and conduct holistic industry benefits focused problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills. Communication will be required between senior managers within each industry organisation as well as various railway system subject matter experts within project delivery teams.
  • Solid grounding in the railway as a system, ideally including : sub-systems and the interfaces between sub-systems and the technical issues associated with each (e.
  • g. track systems, signalling systems, Rolling stock etc.).Timetabling and the associated industry processesOperations and maintenance of railway

  • Understanding of the railway organisation structure, including organisational interfaces and commercial arrangements
  • Experience of working within infrastructure owner (Network Rail), Train Operating Companies
  • Experience of working on multi-asset major programmes
  • Experience in applying appropriate programme and systems engineering management tools
  • Experience in requirement capture, analysing, management and V&V
