The Work You'll Do

The VAT Compliance Services Manager is responsible for ensuring that all regulatory deadlines are met by the team while delivering an outstanding customer service experience to clients.

This role will be responsible for large client portfolio within compliance services teams as well as providing day-to-day support, coaching, and mentoring to more junior members of the VAT Compliance Services team.

As a Manager, this role will also assist in tracking and managing team tasks, supporting team members with client escalations, and leading process improvement initiatives to maximize internal efficiency, minimize risk and improve client experience.

The role will also work closely with other departments to ensure that client escalations are appropriately handled, and ongoing process improvement and standardisation initiatives are implemented consistently across Compliance Services Teams.

More specifically :

  • Lead and Manage a team to successful completion of department goals and be accountable for service levels and process controls for business adopting a continuous improvement approach
  • Complete final approval of high risk and complex tax returns and other compliance related tasks (such as historical submissions and tax reclaims) prior to the submission and payment to the tax authorities, ensuring that quality and risk controls are adhered by the department including signing on behalf of clients as their fiscal representative
  • Support Compliance Services Teams with client activities to ensure timely completion of compliance related tasks
  • Liaise with the Customer Success team to ensure that a consistently high level of service is delivered to clients in respect of both core compliance and other Sovos offerings
  • Address customer service escalations from clients and tax authorities
  • Maintain current knowledge of VAT principles and relevant legislation to ensure a high level of data accuracy and to assist Sales and Marketing with technical advice as required
  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable business processes promoting our world class software designed to reduce errors and increase processing speed resulting in lower penalty and interest occurrences
  • Provide assistance to Services Associates and Representatives in resolving complex client issues including managing client escalations, identifying risk and resolving calculation errors
  • Represent company at external events and attend, manage and run client meetings
  • Interview, hire, train, coach, assign work, appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, escalating as required
  • Mentor new Compliance Services staff members and supervisors
  • Support Compliance Services Director with developing metric-based goals and benchmarks to measure team efficiency and performance
  • Follow through on managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organisation’s policies and applicable laws
  • Work with the product team to continue to drive adoption of Sovos software for all parts of the compliance process
  • What We Need From You

  • Qualified or finalist CTA or other relevant accounting / taxation qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work-related experience preferred
  • 2+ years of prior management experience in a customer facing role preferred
  • 5+ years of client service-related work experience
  • Excellent time management, decision making, and organizational skills
  • Ability to lead and empower teams to achieve individual and operational goals
  • Excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and cross-functionally
  • Detail oriented and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
