Technical Authority / Chief Engineer

Job Purpose

This is a senior role working closely with the Programme Manager and as the Chief Engineer / Technical Authority you will plan and manage the integration activity within the programme, whilst working closely with internal and external customers.

  • You will need an ability to critically analyse aspects of engineering and the programme. You will bring both a breadth and depth of engineering experience covering mechanical, electronic and FPGA development;
  • which combined with your organisational and people management skills will provide vision and leadership to the team.

    Exploratory (Bid) Phase

  • Solution development and provision
  • Technical accountability for solution and engineering costs
  • Generation of WBS and NRE costs
  • Buy off of estimates through the capability leads
  • Concept, Development, Production (Design) Phase

  • Determination of project tasks and work breakdown
  • Accountable for technical project delivery, cost and timescales on a project(s) or product line
  • Accountable for approval of documentation pertaining to the project(s) or product line
  • Maintenance of project resource requirements
  • Application of technologies from the capability to the project / product area
  • Application of the business processes to the delivery of projects
  • Customer interface for projects under their supervision
  • Independent Design review chair
  • Progress tracking of technical and engineering aspects of the project
  • Accountable for output of those assigned to the project
  • Responsible for undertaking appraisals as delegated through the engineering organisation
  • The Technical Authority will report on all aspects of the role to the Head of Engineering
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor Degree in relevant subject (e.g. Electronic / Electrical Engineering) or commensurate experience in relevant discipline.

  • Detailed understanding of product development life cycle and associated requirements on product / project delivery
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements

  • Any particular aptitude / skill required

  • Eligible to obtain UK security clearance and to level SC level
  • Able to travel on Company business
