Purpose of the role :
Reporting to the Body Panels Principal Engineer within the Body In White Engineering team, the Series Engineer will be responsible for supporting all engineering related activities on McLaren products in Series.
Principal accountabilities :
Support the production line with Technical Support to ensure that the production line is capable of outputting 22UPD.
Containment of all Production Engineering Quality Concerns
RCA of quality concerns following PPS methodology
Quality Concern Resolution and Standardisation feeding back into the Principal Engineers within the Development Engineering and Concept Teams to ensure all Lessons Learnt from Launch and Production are incorporated into Design Guides and future vehicle projects.
Support the Zone and Shift Engineers, to build their technical knowledge of your Functional Area.
Support New Product Launches into MPC ensuring minimal impact to existing product output.
Robustly deliver Design and Development of Engineering changes for current production vehicles within your functional area :
Considering all applicable attributes, ie NVH, weight, DFM, and Quality
Deliver Model Year content for your function group
HPC reductions and Design for Quality improvements
Deliver VAVE content to ensure overall vehicle targets are met.
Engineering changes to minimise Warranty expenditure and improve the Customer Experience, including releases to support legacy product and Service Only Parts
Knowledge, skills & experience :
Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree
Demonstrable experience in automotive design and development function
Experience of high volume or niche vehicle (low volume) programmes
Relevant Experience in System Design and materials technology
Technical knowledge on lightweight Body Structures, aluminium and composites.
Technical knowledge on Body Panels; Aluminium (hot and cold formed), SMC, Carbon Fibre.
Knowledge of DFMEA and its application in automotive environment.
Knowledge of GD&T
CATIA V5, PC literate and at ease with MS Office products.
Knowledge of Engineering Simulation and Analysis tools and processes
Excellent commercial awareness to maintain a focus on cost, profit, quality and risk.
A strong track record of delivering designs to timing, weight and cost targets.
Supplier management, comfortable with understanding and implementing DFM requirements within the project scope.
Personal attributes :
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
A team player able to work closely with internal and external network of engineers.
Adopts a creative & thoughtful approach to concept design and solving engineering problems with good attention to detail and an engaging mind, open to new problems outside their normal comfort zone.
Ability to use own initiative when working under pressure.
Well organised and delivery focused - with demonstrable track record of on-time delivery in a high-pressure environment.
