The Acoustics, Audio Visual and Theatre Consultants (AAVT) practice covers a broad range of skills and experience, focusing on design and delivery of buildings in all sectors, with a particular interest in performance venues.

Alongside and integrated with these business areas, we are experts in environmental sound, noise and vibration, working with teams in buildings and infrastructure design, environmental impact assessment and planning.

We work closely with the colleagues in other Arup disciplines, following the Total Architecture philosophy to develop novel and optimised solutions which are both reliable and sustainable.

We also work with external teams, contributing our specialist skills to projects where other Arup disciplines may not be involved.

We currently have AAVT colleagues based in eight Arup offices across the UK but operate as a single, connected and integrated UK team.

We also work closely with and share knowledge around our global community.

The Role

The Arup AAVT team is looking to recruit a Senior Acoustic Consultant to support the delivery of a diverse range of projects covering many different business sectors.

Although you can expect to work on a broad portfolio of projects, we are particularly seeking a candidate with demonstrable experience in building acoustics, ideally including performing arts buildings.

We are looking for enthusiastic and capable candidates to consider technical and business leadership roles in one of the world’s leading consultancies, delivering best in class solutions to enhance the acoustic environment within buildings and in the wider environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in building acoustics and a willingness and enthusiasm to build on this and develop skills covering all aspects of acoustics within which Arup operates.

The successful candidate will be responsible for :

Supporting the delivery of medium to large scale projects as part of a multi-disciplinary design team consisting of other engineering disciplines associated with the built environment.

Production of deliverables including reports and drawings within agreed deadlines and budgetary constraints.

Supporting the AAVT Leadership team with business development, including developing fee proposals based on level of effort estimates;

meeting with project teams and clients to develop opportunities; and presenting at external conferences and networking events.

Skills and Knowledge :

Expertise in building acoustic design projects across a range (but not all) of the sectors in which Arup works. And design experience for performing arts venues

Using specialist acoustic modelling software such as Odeon, SoundPlan, NoiseMap.

Understanding of current building regulations and planning requirements related to noise.

Experience with environmental impact and planning noise and vibration assessments.

Using applications such as REVIT and other associated platforms in the 3D environment.

Experience delivering projects within a BIM environment and experience of using GIS software.

Qualifications :

Minimum first degree or equivalent in acoustics or hold a higher degree in a related subject.

Be working towards or hold Chartered Engineer status with a relevant technical body, e.g. the Institute of Acoustics.
