ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

To carry out a range of varied tasks, as requested by your Team Leader in order to pick, sort, scan, package & dispatch contact lenses to ensure customer requirements, production performance targets and quality standards are met and when possible exceeded.

1.Picking materials & lenses for customer orders in accordance with company procedures & work instructions :

  • Picking lenses from OSR and Pick to light moving machinery.
  • Picking lenses from standard picking locations (WQ and RFX)
  • Picking lenses from racking locations using Wav Machines at height.
  • Collating fully picked orders and moving to multi tote sorting area.
  • 2.Pre-sorting lenses for customer orders in accordance with company procedures & work instructions :

  • Manually pre-sort orders in line with customer requirements.
  • 3.Scanning fully picked customer orders in accordance with company procedures & work instructions

  • Following bespoke customer requirements scan fully picked orders using computerised stock systems.
  • Packing finished orders into cartons
  • Packing finished orders onto pallets
  • Using pallet trucks to move loads
  • 4.Dispatching customer orders in accordance with company procedures & work instructions

  • Following bespoke customer requirements sort orders for shipment and complete paperwork
  • Packing finished orders onto pallets
  • Using pallet trucks to move loads
  • Loading trucks
  • Communication with shipping office
  • 5.Recording of data in accordance with company procedures & work instructions :

  • Written and / or computerized
  • 6.Ensure best practices are followed in line with :

  • Standard operating procedures
  • GMP / 5s
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives.
  • 7.Housekeeping

  • Basic cleaning and removal of waste at the end of each sift as directed by your Team Leader.
  • 8.Health and Safety

  • Comply with health and safety regulations within the team and the environment ensuring safe practice regarding use of equipment (i.
  • e. machinery, lift truck, manual handling equipment etc) and general good housekeeping to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • PC literate, basic skills in the use of Microsoft Office
  • Use of manual handling equipment, e.g. Wav Machine, Pump Trucks and Trollies.
  • Ability to read, understand and work to SOP’s / Work Instructions
  • Must be able to provide feedback to the Team Leader / Senior Operator on work levels, machine and material issues on a regular basis.
  • Be aware of and contribute to continuous improvement projects as appropriate
  • Distribution operators are required to be multi-skilled (pick, scan, pack and dispatch) so should receive any new training and assist in the training of other operators as required.
  • Training must be in accordance with the necessary SOP’s and associated documentation

  • If required, participate in internal & external audits to ensure compliance to relevant ISO / FDA & customer requirements
  • Use of systems where appropriate (Baan, RP, JDA)
  • Good communication skills with the ability to communicate well with all team members including line managers and support operations in English
  • Positive attitude and ability to self-motivate and demonstrate initiative to promote team working
  • Team player with ability to relate to people and form relationships easily
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision within a team and at time be able to work effectively on your own, where necessary,
  • Quality conscious.
  • Punctual for daily tasks and the motivation to work to set targets,
  • Able to handle repetitive work and to ensure consistency of work standards.
  • The post works within a demanding, yet informal, English speaking environment where there is an ongoing expectation and responsibility to maximise productivity time and productivity levels to ensure targets are met.
  • The immediate work area is open plan with lots of moving equipment with team members in close proximity.
  • The work, carried out over an 8 hour shift,is physically demanding and a significant proportion of the shift will require the member of staff to stand.
  • Some of our work areas have a high level of noise. Where this is above prescribed limits PPE is supplied and must be worn

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The post holders working environment is a large open plan warehouse / factory building.
  • All necessary personal protective equipment must be worn along with the use of the correct manual handling equipment and operating techniques.
  • As well as some lifting the majority of products are transported throughout the building on movable cages which can also be heavy.
  • Lifting up to approx. 15 kg.
  • There may be some working at heights required.
  • There is constant background noise from the operation of various packaging machinery.
  • Temperatures in the warehouse fluctuate due to seasonal variations.
  • Periods of prolonged standing.
  • EDUCATION

    Five GCSE’s or equivalent preferred.

    EXPERIENCE

    Enthusiastic and flexible, a Team Player, also able to work alone as well as within a team, with good inter-personal skills.

  • Experience of working in a warehouse environment, operating machinery or distribution / manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Understanding of Lean, continuous improvements, Health and Safety preferred.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft packages)
