The BDO London based US Business Tax team was established to serve a global client base focussing on the taxation of entities that either have investors with US tax considerations or make investments into the US markets.

Given this focus, we pride ourselves on being a comprehensive adviser to clients with these needs and seek to support them whether it be transaction support, compliance & reporting or withholding tax matters.

Many of our clients will require a consistent relationship while others may simply be limited to specific transactions.

The US Business Tax team primarily focuses on either the corporate or investment management sectors with clients typically being either multinational companies or funds that invest on behalf of their investor populations.

Given the unique differences of the two markets, team members are encouraged to develop a fundamental understanding of the US tax issues related to these two populations and are strongly suggested to choose a focus area at a more senior level within their careers.

As the US Business Tax team is embedded in the fifth biggest global accountancy firm, this is a unique opportunity to work with a young, fast growing team to help establish and build the practice alongside the UK tax business with significant interaction from BDO’s US member firm.

We’ll help you succeed

We are looking for candidates with 2-6 years of experience with US tax backgrounds to complement the existing team. Candidates would be expected to have strong US technical skills and applicable experience of handling a client base.

Corporate tax or experience with funds is considered a benefit.


  • To act as a key point of contact within the firm for the client, together with the Partner. This will involve responding quickly to, as well as anticipating, client requests / needs, keeping clients informed of progress in relation to all aspects of the service provided, and maintaining regular contact with clients
  • Reviewing tax Forms 1065, 1120, 1120-F, 5471, 8865, 8858.
  • Ability to analyse CFCs, Subpart F income, GILTI along with the double taxation mitigation options; and the potential election planning that can be done to mitigate these factors.
  • Familiarity with PFIC identification and planning options
  • Check the box / entity classification advice
  • Review of work prepared by more junior members of staff
  • To ensure assignments are completed within agreed budgets and keep client / Partner / Principle informed of overruns and plan staff assignments in order to give an appropriate spread of experience
  • Identify risk and technical matters, as well as selling opportunities, to the Partner / Principle / Senior Manager, whilst exercising judgement within agreed parameters.

    We’re looking for someone with :

  • US Certified Public Accountant (CPA), licensed attorney or Enrolled Agent (EA) partial or complete qualification
  • A broad base of US tax knowledge
  • Demonstrable post qualified experience
  • Guide and supervise less experienced colleagues.
  • Support, train, mentor and advise others in own area.
  • Challenge current practice driving improvements and championing change.
  • Take personal responsibility for own decisions and actions and those of others.
  • Lead projects of limited scale or complexity.
  • Client handling and presentation skills.
