Job Purpose

The Group Accountant is an integral part of the Group Finance leadership team. Reporting directly to the Group CFO, you will be accountable for a range of Group accounting activities, and will be technical lead on key accounting policies.

This role will work alongside both the Business Planning & Financial Planning Manager and the Group Reporting Manager; and will have a small team (circa 10) reporting in to them.

This is a varied role that will require the balance of technical knowledge and excellent interpersonal skills to make sound strategic and operational decisions.

You will be responsible ensuring the delivery of key group accounting initiatives and both your advanced communication skills and management style will empower and motivate the team.

    You will have responsibility for ensuring that the Treasury Team develops and maintains a reputation for delivering a great service throughout the organisation.

    Job Dimensions

    Management Responsibility :

    The Group Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing Group accountancy functions, including, Holding Accounting, a small finance shared services team, UK Payroll (outsourced), Group Tax, and Group Tax.

    Key Accountabilities

    The Group Accountant will be accountable for :

  • Governance - Responsible for maintaining Group Finance policy and procedure documentation, and ensuring the Group Finance team work within the group guidelines
  • Technical Accounting provide technical accounting support on current and new reporting standards, support proposed acquisitions and ventures, and impact assessments of new reporting standards
  • Holdings Accounting- Manage the Holdings Accountant, oversight of holding accountings activities (production of timely accurate financial information)
  • Finance Shared Services management of the shared services team leader, oversight of the teams activities (including maintenance of accounting records and timely reporting)
  • Payroll Oversee the UK payroll services activities performed by holdings accounting team, oversee, alongside the holdings accountant, the relationship with third party supplier of payroll services to ensure key deliverables are met
  • Tax Oversight of the group tax activities, including responsibility for the management of the Group Tax Manager, review annual tax computations, ensure timely management information is produced around tax compliance;
  • provide guidance for the improvement of tax reporting

  • Treasury - Oversee the Treasury activity and manage the Group Treasury Manager; for maintaining accounting treatment(under IFRS 9) and treasury procedures;
  • member of the Treasury Committee

  • Financial Risk Support key stakeholders in the identification of strategic financial risks to ensure that Group Finance teams are working to put suitable controls and measures in place to adequately mitigate these
  • Management of Group Finance Team Day to day staff management; Performance appraisals; Employee development
  • Other To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as required / instructed by your line manager; Health & Safety adherence to all Company Health & Safety Policies, Procedures and Safe Working Practices

  • Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience :

  • Relevant professional qualification, with at least 5 years post qualification experience (e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • University degree or equivalent
  • Desirable Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience :

  • A working knowledge ofInternational Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)Tax including International tax and Transfer PricingTreasury activities in an international group, include FX and commodities hedgingBroad understanding of UK payroll
  • Experience of either management or supervising other members of staff
  • Experience of reporting to senior management / Board of Directors
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, and Group Consolidation Software (AX, Onestream)
  • Job Specific Skills :

  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively
  • Ability to document business procedures
  • IT literate proficient in MS Office software and finance packages
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information
