If so, our Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship may be just for you.

You may be surprised to know that to make one toilet roll, the machinery involved is larger than a jumbo jet, the machine speed is faster than the motorway speed limit, and the process involves recycling paper, water and energy.

Join us as an electrical engineering apprentice and this could be the start of your learning.

About the role

Our paper mill contains a vast array of machinery and equipment. Key to its success is that the machinery is well maintained and reliable.

Our electrical engineering apprenticeship will over a four-year period equip you with the skills to reach the level of skilled shift electrical and instrumentation technician on completion of your apprenticeship.

What you will do

You will develop your skills through a mix of on-the-job training as well as gaining formal qualifications through college attendance.

Whilst at work you will be putting your learnings into practice, working with an experienced and friendly team who are keen to support you.

You will work Monday to Friday during your apprenticeship. During your first year you will attend Burnley College full time with scheduled work placements on site.

From year two onwards you will be based on site, spending one day per week at Burnley College.

The qualifications you will study are :

Year 1 : Level 3 BTEC / Diploma, including functional skills

Year 2 : Level 2 Papermaking Technical Certificate

Year 3 : NVQ Level 3 Extended Diploma, Level 3 Papermaking Certificate

If you demonstrate the right level of knowledge growth and commitment during your apprenticeship, you will have the opportunity to study for a Level 4 HNC Engineering qualification in the final two years.

This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn.

Who are you?

  • We would love to hear from you if you have;
  • A minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grades 5 / C including maths, English and a science (essential)
  • Strong IT literacy with a working knowledge of Microsoft office products
  • The ability to work well under pressure ensuring deadlines are met and outcomes monitored
  • A logical and methodical approach to problem solving
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • A flexible but solutions focussed approach
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Key to success for this apprenticeship is to have the ability to balance time between studies and work to ensure success in both.

    Selection

    We will shortlist your application based on you meeting the academic criteria, together with demonstrating how you meet the behaviours that are important to us.

    The closing date for applying is Sunday, 1 March 2020.

    For those shortlisted, assessment centres will be held on site in April 2020.

    Your start date if successful will be September 2020.

    More About Stubbins Mill, Bury

    Stubbins paper mill is located just off the A676 in Lancashire and close to both the A56 and M66 making it accessible from many areas within the region.

    We have a large free staff car park and are located close to public transport. The paper machine on site produces tissue for our professional hygiene products such as TORK.

    This site has a long-standing history within the area and has been manufacturing paper for over one hundred years. You will have access to knowledgeable teams to support your learning but will also play an active role in driving forward continuous improvement on site.
