Overall purpose of the role

Working alongside the Café Manager and as part of our customer-facing team, the Chocolate Café Assistant Manager will ensure that high quality and great value food and drink are prepared and served to café customers at all times from a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

Minimum Requirements

  • Professional and friendly. (Even in tough situations)

  • Effective communication skills with customers and colleagues.
  • Good in written and spoken English
  • Quick thinking.
  • Ability to carry trays filled with glassware / food.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Job Description Responsibilities :

  • Working closely with café manager at all times and acting as shift manager in their absence.
  • Greet customers making them feel welcome to The Chocolate Café.
  • Learn menu items and be able to describe them appropriately to customers.
  • Take beverage and food orders.
  • Ensure beverages and food in a timely manner.
  • Check-in with customers to ensure that everything is going well.
  • Ensure tables are cleared and cleaned in a timely manner.
  • Work with other servers and be a team player.
  • Cut and serve cakes, cream teas and ice creams
  • Ensure sugar bowls, sauces are replenished
  • Mid week we don’t have a dishwasher so fill and empty dishwasher
  • Polish glasses and cutlery
  • Fold napkins
  • Deliver buffets locally on foot
  • Ensuring the café is fully stocked and can meet the menu at all times, notifying the Cafe Manager or kitchen staff of any shortage and noting stock rotation and use by dates

    Ensure café areas inside and outside are clean, safe and hygienic at all times.

    Check that all café facilities, equipment or furnishings are in good order and to report any damages to management

    Setting up and clearing down as required

    Supervise waitresses and part time staff, ensuring tables are cleared and cleaned and food and drinks delivered in a timely manner

    Ensuring the completion of end of day financial spreadsheets and cash handling and that all expenditure is covered by an invoice or receipt.

    Respond promptly and professionally to any customer feedback, comments or complaints.

    Uphold the highest standards of health and safety, cleanliness and professionalism and use your own initiative to respond quickly to issues or challenges that may arise when you are on duty.

    Making customers feel comfortable and welcomed at a cafe really makes all the difference. If they don’t have a pleasant experience they may not probably return.

    It is the waiters / waitresses responsibility to make each guest feel welcomed and comfortable. Make sure you do the following

  • Look clean and presentable
  • Smile.
  • Greet and welcome them.
  • Help the customers with explaining the menu and talking about specials
