The CDO’s aim is to share and exploit all of our data whilst driving insight, so we can deliver on our strategy of Knowing our Customers Better than anyone else.

The Data Product team plays a critical role in delivering Group technology solutions that provide key data products to our colleagues.

These products enable the business to both access our core Group data whilst providing them with greater insight, supporting them to make more effective decisions.

We are seeking passionate, data curious professionals who will set a squad’s (scrum / team) strategic direction and rigorously prioritise and reprioritise their data backlog to ensure their cross functional team maximises the value of Sainsbury’s Group’s data.

Day to day the Product Manager is accountable for the design, usability, quality and delivery of a data product or feature, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned at each stage of the development lifecycle.

What you need to do

  • Work with your Line Manager to deliver the vision, strategy, roadmap and backlog for your product; ensuring alignment to business / divisional vision & goals, and our technology strategy
  • Be the champion for your product - produce / present clear communications to ensure buy-in to what you are aiming to achieve
  • Explain the customer and business need to your team, and collaborate effectively with them to break down complex pieces of work into smaller deliverable pieces of value;
  • work with the team to write user stories and acceptance tests, provide direction on short-term tasks / near-term priorities

  • Support your line manager to define any capital budget, develop the benefit / investment case(s) for your product and coordinate allocated capital to execute your roadmap and ensure your product is delivering value for money
  • With the support of your line manager, manage end-to-end delivery of product iterations, prioritising work and making appropriate trade-offs
  • Communicate progress, proactively manage risks & issues, escalating to your line manager where necessary
  • Collaborate effectively with engineers, architects, data scientists, Report Analysts, other product teams, across Group, DT and Divisional CDO’s, along with 3rd parties to launch new products -
  • maximising re-use across the group

  • Work with your line manager to prioritise, coordinate and communicate the resolution of live product issues
  • Coordinate post-launch activities to validate value realisation through post investment reviews
  • Understand and report progress against agreed outcomes and related success measures
  • Use data to drive analysis of new features / iterations and drive prioritisation of future work
  • What you need to know

  • Experience of product / project management
  • Excellent planning & prioritisation skills, with a working knowledge of agile practices
  • Strong people skills with ability to communicate, engage and influence colleagues and stakeholders
  • An understanding of the art of the possible’ from a data and analytics perspective
  • Knowledge of the tools and technologies that bring data to life’
  • How to get the best out of people so they feel engaged & valued
  • Ability to analyse processes and data to draw insight, and identify opportunities
