Introduction
The Editorial Tools Engineering Manager will report directly to the Head of Engineering for The Economist, be based out of our Birmingham engineering hub and is responsible for driving architectural design, coding best practice and optimising delivery for our editorial tools.
The appointee will join the team at a time of significant development and growth and the need for technology excellence and digital customer experience becomes paramount in our ability to deliver this.
We are therefore looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Editorial Tools team.
Our Editorial Tools Engineering teams build and run the products driving The Economist’s digital content, including articles, audio, video and interactive content.
Our team’s mission is to facilitate digital content creation and build an efficient back-end system to serve it to our apps.
As editorial engineers, we are a crucial part of creating new user experiences powered by The Economist’s most engaging content.

This role is available in our central Birmingham office, just a 5 min walk from New Street Station and 1 min walk from Snow Hill Station.
We offer flexible working and have systems in place to ensure working remotely when the need arises. During the current Covid-19 situation, we shifted to all working remotely and the intention is to continue to spend more time working remotely than in the office.
