Director of Product Insights - Core Experience

What you'll do

  • Lead a team of user researchers and data scientists, setting focus, strategy and priorities for involvement in 3-4 product areas.
  • Have people management responsibilities for a team of up to 10-15 data scientists and user researchers and report to the Mission Product Insights Lead.
  • Communicate insights and recommendations to key product decision makers at the Director, VP and Executive levels.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams of product managers, designers, developers and others across the company passionate about Spotify’s success to plan and execute impactful research projects.
  • Establish ways of working and roadmap for your team in collaboration with product and design, and by aligning with other leads in your mission and business unit.
  • Establish quality standards for the work your team delivers and optimize for efficient and speedy, careful execution.
  • Work from our office in London or Stockholm and manage relationships with partners globally (with occasional traveling).
  • Who you are

  • You have demonstrated ability and proven experience as a people-manager for a product insights or data science organization.
  • You have an educational background appropriate for an insights manager (e.g., a graduate degree in a social, cognitive, or natural science, information science, statistics, or computer science).
  • You have the technical competence and leadership skills to coach team members in appropriate methodologies, communication style, and technical solutions needed.
  • You are cognizant of the time-sensitive nature of the work, and can deliver on-time or request extra time as needed. You are pragmatic and can make tough decisions quickly.
  • You can prioritize the work together with PM, Eng and Design leaders, and your teammates.
  • You are known for delivering high quality work for keeping your own team productive and happy.
  • You are a great communicator, both in writing and orally, and can establish relationships with product, design and engineering.
  • You are capable of taking on ambiguous problem spaces and challenges. You can help product managers with defining the questions they want answered, specifying methodology and timelines for their requests.
  • You are also capable of saying no as needed.

  • We don’t expect you to know everything, but you should have some (the more the better) of the following qualifications :
  • Familiar with relevant methodologies for understanding and interpreting human behavior and human interactions with technology.
  • Knowledge of statistics extends beyond an introductory class.
  • Expertise using SQL and R or Python.
  • Survey methodology and market research.
  • Qualitative data collection methods and mixed methods research.
  • Experience with experimentation and experimental design, alternatives to experimentation, and challenges with design, deployment and analysis of AB tests in a large company setting.
