Job Profile Summary
At BP, we’re committed to providing the energy that fuels growth and improves lives but in new ways, with fewer emissions.
These are big, complex challenges which new technologies are helping us meet.
The Global Technology, Data and Brands group within BP Legal provides co-ordinated legal support on technology and intellectual property-related matters across all our global businesses.
This is your opportunity to support Upstream Technology, a centralised organisation of scientists and engineers working to develop and deploy technologies to advance safety performance, improve efficiency and increase production across BP’s upstream portfolio.
About the opportunity
You’ll provide specialist, commercially focused technology and intellectual property-related legal advice to the Upstream Technology function along with other functions and regional businesses.
You will also support the transition of new technologies developed by Upstream Technology into Launchpad, our business incubator function which scales up new technologies in a fast-paced and agile environment.
The role will see you lead the negotiation of technology and intellectual property-related transactions including research agreements, R&D collaboration agreements, agreements relating to the licensing, scale-up and / or commercialisation of BP technologies and technology joint ventures.
You’ll support strategy development and execution, identify and evaluate risks and IP rights, and manage disputes in various jurisdictions.
The group collaborates across business segments so you will have the chance to work with colleagues from other areas, including corporate and other specialist lawyers within BP Legal.
You’ll be a solicitor or barrister who is qualified to practise in Scotland or England and Wales. You will also bring experience in technology or intellectual property, backed by a record of successful completions of technology-related transactions.
Together with your ability to influence senior stakeholders, you will have commercial awareness and a talent for quickly gaining a good understanding of new and existing technologies and how they can create value.
In addition, you’ll have strong skills in legal transactions, project management and prioritising and managing conflicting demands across a broad organisation.
