You can locate anywhere within the UK as you will be providing remote support to engagement teams across the UK. Many team members have a flexible working pattern.

We have an exciting opportunity for a talented professional to join our Department of Professional Practice Audit (DPP Audit) capability at Senior Manager level.

We are a dynamic team of passionate and highly skilled professionals, working hard to support our audit teams in the field to get things right first time.

Your role will focus on the audit quality agenda and includes day to day responsibility for using your technical knowledge and practical experience to lead the development of audit work papers, guidance, training materials and examples in key areas.

You will work closely with Directors and Partners in the team as well as colleagues across the wider Audit Practice. In addition, you will use your deep technical expertise to respond to our audit teams’ queries through our helpdesk function, giving you the opportunity to develop new areas of knowledge, and strengthen existing ones.

You will be accountable for managing and supervising the work of colleagues (potentially at both junior and senior level).

You will also have performance management responsibilities for a small number of employees.

Subject Matter Expert (SME) Role

  • Being the lead SME, working with and reporting to a technical Director, for a number of key technical areas, driving the changes required to respond to feedback from the business, our regulator, and the changing external environment.
  • Developing networks and collaborating with other SMEs and key people from the business.
  • Overseeing the development of new audit technical guidance as well as developing and maintaining work papers, templates and examples to support consistent execution of quality audits.
  • Working with training professionals to develop audit technical training material, utilising the guidance and examples developed.
  • Audit Helpline

  • Discussing complex technical issues with audit teams and answering queries in your subject matter areas, as well as reviewing draft responses from more junior members of the team.
  • Identifying where further consultation and escalation is required.

  • Technical knowledge : Has in-depth knowledge and ability to understand practical application of relevant technical auditing standards, regulations and accounting literature.
  • Exhibits and stays current on appropriate industry and specialised knowledge, while leveraging appropriate firm-wide tools and methodologies.

  • Technology skills : Understands the purpose of, and the audit methodology underpinning, firm-approved audit tools and innovative technology solutions to increase audit quality, productivity, and data insights.
  • Contributes to the development of new audit tools where these are relevant to assigned Subject Matter Expert areas.

  • Professional scepticism and issue identification : Applies professional scepticism, objectivity and independence to identify and support resolution of potential audit issues

    Qualifications

  • Professional qualification from a recognised accountancy body.
  • Experience and Knowledge Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge and understanding of Auditing Standards and methodologies.
  • Experience of working with a technology enabled audit workflow tool.
  • Recent and extensive experience of managing audits or large projects, including leading teams and being the primary point of contact for stakeholders.
  • Experience of performance managing teams, coaching and mentoring junior staff.
  • IT literate with sound knowledge and experience of MS Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Ideally, previous experience in an audit technical support role
