Purpose of the role :

A role providing full-time dedicated corporate, regulatory, privacy and governance advice to State Street’s EMEA businesses and control functions, with a particular focus on the UK.

Please note : This role is only open to experienced lawyers.

The ideal candidate will position themselves as a go to adviser by demonstrating reliable judgment, comfort with unfamiliar topics, and a reputation for practical, risk-appropriate, and technically sharp legal advice.

Role specifics

Prior financial services regulatory experience is desirable, but more important is a curious mindset, excellent legal skills, and an ability to quickly pick up new topics.

The role will cover the following areas :

  • privacy, confidentiality and data security, including the GDPR;
  • prudential and conduct related regulatory issues and potential breaches; in particular, the UK Senior Managers and Certification Regime;
  • the UK Prudential Regulation Authority’s and Financial Conduct Authority’s rules and guidance (including, in particular, the FCA’s rules and guidance in relation to CASS);
  • regulatory issues, reforms, supervisory reviews and regulatory themes impacting State Street’s business;
  • regulatory aspects of corporate re-organisation and expansion projects and cross functional or jurisdictional corporate projects;
  • anti-money laundering and sanctions issues;
  • governance and corporate secretarial related issues arising from or impacting State Street’s legal entity boards and governance committees.
  • The role will have a particular focus on the UK but may involve matters arising across EMEA or globally. Advice will often be given in a multi-jurisdictional context and therefore the ideal candidate will be able to understand jurisdictional differences and nuances and tailor their advice accordingly.

  • Level of Education / Qualifications

    The successful candidate must be a qualified lawyer. The role would suit someone with approximately 5 years PQE.

    Skills and Experience

    Relevant financial services experience is highly desirable, but not essential.
