The Role

The successful candidate will deliver planning, forecasting and insight into the cash flow performance of British Gas Energy, developing a comprehensive understanding of the drivers of working capital and articulating this to key stakeholders.

Your primary responsibilities will be to deliver high quality insight on month end cash flow and working capital performance, to support with the preparation of the working capital Group Annual Plan and quarterly Group Financial Forecast and to provide support with ad hoc queries

Key success factors :

Ability to simplify and streamline existing financial models and processes

Support the Cash Flow Finance Manager with the preparation of accurate, high-quality insight into the cash flow performance of the energy business

Being able to explain business performance against plan, forecast and prior year in an easy-to-understand way

Be able to draw the link between changes to external factors (e.g. energy prices) and the working capital requirements of the energy business

Collaborate effectively with the wider Finance team and other non-finance stakeholders, becoming a key point of contact for queries relating to cash flow and working capital

The Person

You will report to the Cash Flow Finance Manager with a primary focus on cash flow reporting, forecasting and analysis. You will gain a great financial understanding of the Energy business while also strengthening your analytical and stakeholder management skills.


It’s essential you are studying for or have completed an accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)

Comfortable with building financial models to support the creation of robust forecasts

Highly proficient at Excel, with a proven track record of designing, maintaining, and updating financial models

Strong financial acumen - prior experience in roles with a cash flow and working capital focus is desirable

Experienced with undertaking ad hoc financial analysis and making recommendation to senior management based on findings

Previous FP&A finance experience in a large organisation would be an advantage

Work quickly and accurately under pressure, juggling conflicting demands to meet tight deadlines

Enjoy working collaboratively and sharing knowledge.

Experience of using SAP would be an advantage

You will be highly numerate with the ability to identify a problem and think through an approach to develop a solution. You will be intellectually curious about the energy retail environment, be able to absorb multiple issues and complexity, and respond well to change.
