Job Description

Join our national Impact Assessment team as a Technical Director and you will have the opportunity to work on some of the UK’s largest and complex infrastructure and developments.

Our Impact Assessment team is involved in some of the UK’s most complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding including Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects, energy and infrastructure developments, residential and commercial schemes and world-renowned major transport projects across the rail and highways sector.

Our clients include Highways England, HS2, National Grid, Network Rail, TfL, Homes England, Environment Agency, and Welsh Government together with a range of private developers and local authorities.

You will be accountable for high level and strategic advice to our clients. You will balance delivering projects and winning new work, building relationships within the Arcadis business as well as with existing and new clients.

You will spend time pursuing projects, securing framework opportunities, managing key client and partner relationships, and leading major bids.

You will actively use and develop a network of contacts in client organisations, strategic partners, and other collaborators to win and deliver work.

Your day to day role will involve :

  • Providing technical direction for IA in the delivery of major projects. Leading the delivery of complex projects ensuring client satisfaction, effective project management and good communication and collaboration between Arcadis colleagues.
  • This will include delivering a strong IA leadership role for a wide variety of infrastructure and development projects.

  • You may be leading the consent process on major infrastructure projects through early options and feasibility stages and the preparation and submission of documents as part of Development Consent Orders and consents under the Town and Country Planning Act.
  • Leading complex IA bids and collaborating with Arcadis colleagues to deliver high quality multi-disciplinary bids.
  • Developing client relationships and new opportunities for IA work, enhancing our reputation and market position through your professional profile and contribution.
  • Helping grow and develop the wider team through new initiatives, mentoring and line management.
  • Leading by example to motivate and empower, support the development of staff, provide project-related opportunities to develop skills and providing a team-wide framework for training and mentoring to develop others.
  • Seeking out opportunities to develop a strong professional profile at a national level.
  • Maintaining and enhancing our external reputation by speaking at external events, preparing articles for publication, and working with relevant professional bodies.
  • Requirements

  • Experience of UK town planning and consents process preferably to include DCO, TWOA and / or Hybrid Bill experience is desirable.
  • Proven Project Management experience in the field of EIA with detailed knowledge of processes and strategies to support consenting process for major projects.
  • Experience in meeting sustainability and climate challenges would be advantageous to the role as well as strong knowledge of the EIA process.
  • Experience of major infrastructure clients in preferably the Rail, Highways and Energy sectors is advantageous.
  • Management of multidisciplinary teams and understanding of how to integrate the work of other disciplines (engineering, environmental, design).
  • Demonstrable record of developing and securing new business. Experience in business development including identification of opportunities and ability to win new clients whilst maintaining existing ones.
  • Experience of preparing client proposals, leading on presentations to prospective clients, bidding / tendering for internal and external opportunities and strong commercial awareness.
  • Ability to influence project decision-makers, engineers and regulators to arrive at sustainable solutions.
  • Experience of working with a range of client bodies, including private sector (promoters of infrastructure, utility companies and developers) and public sector (central and / or local government).
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance.
  • Chartered Environmentalist and Full member of a relevant professional body.
