University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) has an exciting opportunity for a Neurosciences Care Group Pharmacist to join the team.
ABOUT THE TEAMThe Wessex Neurological Centre (WNC) provides a dedicated, integrated 24-hour acute neurosurgical and neurological assessment, investigation and treatment service.
Being one of the largest Neuroscience Centres in the country, it treats over 4000 inpatients and 13,000 outpatients each year.
WHAT YOU'll DOYou will lead a small dedicated team of pharmacists and technicians to deliver a clinical pharmacy service to neurology and neurosurgical patients.
This post is ideal for an enthusiastic team player who is ready to step into their first management position, whilst retaining the ability to develop highly specialist clinical competencies in a defined area.
In addition to your clinical role, you will also support the care group in managing and reporting the medicines spend on a range of high cost medicines.
This will involve liaising with consultants working within WNC, and with local commissioners.In addition to specialist clinical activities, the position will involve : -Assisting with the implementation of relevant NICE guidelines, and horizon scanning for new medicines.
Representing pharmacy at care group management and clinical governance meetingsDeveloping evidence based treatment guidelines in conjunction with primary care and the District Prescribing CommitteeUndertaking audit and teaching within the multidisciplinary teamDeveloping the clinical skills of rotational staffWHAT WE'RE LOOKING FORWe are looking for a pharmacist who is enthusiastic to learn and committed to team working.
It is not essential that you have specialist experience of neurology patients; we can provide additional training and development to support you if necessary.
We have a strong commitment to developing pharmacist independent prescribers; the clinical pharmacy team contains over 40 pharmacists including 20 prescribers and two consultant pharmacists.
A candidate with an interest in becoming an independent prescriber would be an advantage for the future.As a department we have a strong commitment to continuing professional development and training.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to undertake further study e.g. a clinical or managerial diploma or MSc. You will be supported by an established ward based medicines management service, a team of specialist pharmacists and an experienced divisional lead pharmacist.
