Role objectives

The role is for a Lead Developer in an I.T. department that supports and facilitates the front, middle and back office functions of an expanding European energy retailing organisation.

We are looking for a Development Team Leader to manage a team of permanent and contractor developers in delivering technical solutions to support business operations.

As well as being a mentor and leader for other developers, you will be a key person in driving technical improvement and innovation to allow the business to grow and become more efficient.

Duties & Responsibilities

The role has 2 key areas of accountability with time split between them on a 60 (technical) / 40(Leadership) basis but varying based on project delivery and people priorities :

Technical Delivery

  • Develop changes to internal systems based on agreed business requirements
  • Ensure changes are delivered to the business on time and to the required quality
  • To contribute to and drive the technical direction and roadmap of the IT estate
  • To adopt the latest technologies where relevant and continuously improve the quality of the teams output through innovative solutions, best practises and modern development processes
  • Leadership

  • Day-to-day line management of permanent and contract developers including 121s, holiday approvals, HPP, salary reviews etc
  • Recruitment of new developers
  • Resource planning and allocation
  • Timesheet approvals of contractors
  • Skills & Competencies

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to explain technical detail to non-technical colleagues
  • Collaborative working style to engage with the rest of the team and ensure delivery
  • Takes accountability and full ownership of the tasks assigned and actively seeks tasks that’s have been missed
  • Creative and Innovative thinker to propose and / or implement new solutions
  • Experience

  • Demonstrable experience in a commercial development environment
  • Previous experience in the use of the following technologies
  • C# / .Net 4.5 or above
  • Desktop or web based applications e.g. WFP or MVC .net
  • Entity Framework
  • TSQL on SQL Server
  • Web services (SOAP / XML) and REST
  • Unit Testing & dependency Injection, Source control e.g. subversion or TFS, Continuous Integration and deployment automation
  • People Line management responsibilities
  • Recruitment processes
  • Nice to have :

  • Working experience of Agile / Scrum delivery teams
  • Previous experience or knowledge of any of the following technologies
  • Net Core
  • Docker / containers
  • Education

  • Any Microsoft or industry recognised certifications would be beneficial e.g. MCTS (Nice to have)
