Key Responsibilities

  • Command, lead and manage 18 highly motivated HR specialist soldiers (a detachment) in the delivery of personnel administration.
  • Organise and lead sporting, adventure training and educational opportunities for soldiers.
  • Be responsible for the physical and professional development of your detachment.
  • Engage with and assist senior leadership on personnel and security matters.
  • Serve with any Unit worldwide, including special forces, enhancing employability and enabling a varied skill-set.
  • Enable Unit to deploy operationally, worldwide at any time.

    Training For The Role

    Step 1

    First, you spend 44 weeks training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

    Step 2

    Then you go on the Detachment Commanders’ course, which lasts 11 weeks. It’s affiliated with the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD).

    You’ll learn about the different HR roles that your soldiers will perform and prepare for your first posting as a fully-fledged HR expert.

    Entry Requirements

    Age : 17 years 9 months - 29 years 11 months Qualifications : AGC(SPS) allow individuals to enter RMAS up to the age of 29 and 11 months.

    After this candidates are considered on a case by case basis for an age waiver. More information can be sought after application. Fitness :

    Qualifications You Could Get After Training

    Officer training is accredited by the Defence Awarding Organisation, Institute of Leadership and Management and Chartered Management Institute, ranging from Levels 4 to 7.

    Professional Recognition Awards from City and Guilds.

    Personal development opportunities to undertake degrees in HR Management or Business which include membership of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.

    Pay and Benefits

    You'll earn £27,818 during your year of training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, before commissioning and becoming a Second Lieutenant, on £33,436 a year.
