Reading Borough Council is on a mission to reduce its carbon footprint.

We have ambitious plans to become a zero-carbon borough by 2030. At the heart of the action, the Council’s own emissions are crucial to lead by example.

We have reduced our carbon footprint by over 60% since we started our Local Authority Carbon Reduction Programme in 2008 and we plan to go completely zero carbon by 2030.

The Sustainability team is responsible for driving this work forward and for the energy management of the organisation.

About the role

Day to day, the job will involve managing the delivering of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects using the latest technologies working closely with the Council’s property teams and ensuring that we are on track to meet our carbon plan targets.

You will be reporting into the Councils Committees and Climate Programme Board and overseeing the capital budgets. You will work closely across departments and partner organisations to drive the projects forward to deliver carbon savings across the Council’s estate.

About you

The following experience is required for this role :

  • Higher level qualification in a related field
  • Experience in energy management, working with data, project management, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
  • Experience of managing high profile energy projects who can oversee and drive forward our capital energy programme and help us to become a zero carbon local authority.
  • You will need to be an effective communicator, passionate about saving energy and reducing our carbon footprint.
