Our Environment and Sustainability team provides strategic environmental consultancy services across transport, utilities, defence and local government infrastructure.

The team has a diverse range of skilled people with expertise in ecology, noise, air quality, landscape, arboricultural services, archaeology, carbon modelling, EIA coordination, EMS and auditing, and GIS specialists, servicing the environmental consulting needs within the wider Amey group.

The Role

Due to increased workload we are seeking to recruit a Principal Arboriculturist. The successful candidate will provide leadership and direction to the Arboriculture team including H&S, growth and technical leadership, staff and team development.

In a typical week you will :

  • Provide leadership and direction to the Arboriculture team including H&S, growth and technical leadership, staff and team development.
  • Provide support to colleagues on current technical and industrial developments and regulation concerning arboriculture.
  • Lead on quality assurance standards and continual improvement of services and delivery by the arboricultural team.
  • Support bid applications and tenders for arboricultural consultancy both internal and third party, including resourcing and commercial overview.
  • Represent Amey ES within the arboricultural lead industry bodies and other statutory stakeholders. Improve our industry our profile and our engagement with policy consultations.
  • Produce and deliver a business strategy plan for the E&S Arboricultural team including developing internal and external work leads and focusing on strong financial performance.
  • Support other businesses within Amey to deliver H&S, client requirements and environmental protection.
  • Integrate arboriculture into other disciplines and provide a seamless service where trees and woodlands are an essential aspect of the overall strategy and contract delivery.
  • We want to hear from you if you have :

  • A RFS Professional Diploma in Arb or equivalent - NVQ / WBD L5 / 6. Prof. Tree Surveyors (Lantra / AA)
  • RHS Diploma in Horticulture or Kew Diploma in Horticulture is desirable
  • Arb Assoc Technical Certificate, BASIS Amenity Horticulture / Pesticides are desirable
  • Experience of managing a consulting team including quality and value of consulting services
  • Previous experience of providing commercial support and mangement of arboriculture, horticulture or landscape schemes and projects
  • Demonstrable leadership in health and safety
  • Experience of supervision of operational delivery e.g. pesticides and chainsaws
  • Good understanding of the current status, complexity and importance of the arboricultural industry
