Site Manager - Cleaning and Maintenance - Kings Lynn

Salary : to circa £26,300 dependent upon experience

The Role

The School is seeking a Site Manager to take a leading role in creating a safe learning environment which is engaging and fulfilling for students, staff and visitors.

This role involves line management responsibility of caretaking and cleaning staff.

The post-holder will also act as the sites Health and Safety Officer and will work closely with the rest of the Trust Facilities teams to ensure that the learning environment is safe and well-managed.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing budgets and negotiations. They will have excellent interpersonal skills, line management experience and knowledge and experience of caretaking and health and safety working practices

Purpose of the Job

  • Work with the Head teacher to implement the Academy's vision and values.
  • Work within the Academy community to translate the vision and ethos into agreed objectives and operational plans that will promote and sustain Academy improvement
  • Take a leading role in creating a safe learning environment which is engaging and fulfilling for all users
  • Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop facilities and premises to meet the educational and community requirements of the Academy, ensuring they are well maintained, attractive in appearance and provide a safe and healthy environment for staff, students and visitors.
  • Ensure the Academy and facilities support and enhance excellent teaching and learning experience for staff and students.
  • Ensure compliance with best practice and statutory requirements in the area of Health and safety.
  • To keep the Head Teacher and Trust Facilities Manager fully informed about all areas of responsibility and manage all issues that arise in relation to this role.
  • Responsible as line manager of Caretakers and Cleaners and others that may be transferred to within the Facilities Management team in the future.
  • Carry our Performance Appraisals and Development Reviews and ensure that staff are properly trained in their roles
  • Identify and Implement Training and Development Plans to ensure staff have best opportunity to maximize their potential and contribution to the Academy
  • Act as Academy Health and Safety Officer to ensure that all practices and procedures are conducted in a way that meets all the relevant requirements for the wellbeing of others, including;
  • Consulting or negotiating with external agencies to achieve these ends
  • Having overall responsibility for the First Aid requirements for pupils and staff
  • Acting as Academy Fire Officer
  • Responsible for the overall security of the building, including CCTV control and monitoring, Door access Control, Intruder and Fire alarms.
  • Assist in the formulation of Financial Budgets to deliver these plans. Ensure expenditure is contained within these Financial Budgets, negotiating with service providers, contractors and suppliers to ensure best value is obtained.
  • Assist the Trust Facilities Manager and the Academy's Finance Manager in the identification and selection of support service providers which provide value for money by :
  • Assist in the specification of services, tendering, appointment and management of external contractors to achieve completion on time, on specification and within budget
  • Monitoring Contracts and Service Level Agreements, service delivery and performance quality standards, and identify any concerns in a timely, pro-active way
  • Developing and implementing policies in relation to the Academy, eg security, health and safety, in this way promoting an image of the Academy which accords with its aims
  • Having responsibility for monitoring all external contracts relating to premises and facilities, such as grounds maintenance, waste management and recycling, and buildings maintenance.
  • Ensure all planned maintenance is completed on schedule and within budget, and that urgent repairs are completed within approved timescales, so that the Academy environment is safe, comfortable, available and fully functional
  • Arranging all works to maximize service but to minimize impact on the Academy day and teaching.
  • Responsible for monitoring of all Utility Services and the Building Management System, investigating and implementing means of ways to reduce energy consumption, reduce waste and increase recycling.
  • Manage the procurement of furniture, fixtures, fittings and materials as required
  • Liaise with appropriate organisations and agencies in connection with planning and conducting minor and major works at the Academy and ensuring timely completion achieving the required standards, and improvements specified, and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements
  • Essential Requirements

    Due to the presence in a working school strict rules governing staff behaviour are in place as the requirement for excellent references and DBS approval.

    Experience of working with young people

    Knowledge and working experience of Health Safety regulations and safe working practices within a Caretaking position

    Good knowledge and demonstrable experience of Caretaking

    Good level of Maths and English

    Key Skills

    Line management experience

    Health and Safety conscious ( An HS qualification would be advantageous)

    Budget management and negotiations

    Excellent interpersonal skills

    Caretaking and maintenance experience
