AV Support Technician UK Defence Academy - Swindon Full time, 37 hours, Permanent Salary : £22,104 The job opportunity : The Audio Visual (AV) Support Technician will be working within a team to provide effective management, operation, monitoring, and support of the Defence Academy Audio Visual Systems.

The Audio Visual Support Technician will be responsible for the set up and running of lecture theatres, remote management of facilities, set up and operation of pool AV equipment as necessary, carrying out digitisation tasks, operating a basic video editing facility and troubleshooting IT equipment directly connected with the provision of AV services in theatres and classrooms.

The objectives of the AV Support Technician are to work within a team to operate and maintain effectively the Defence Academy Audio Visual Systems and to encourage self-

operation through user training and instruction in best practice. Main duties : Respond to requests for AV assistance in syndicate rooms, teaching rooms and lecture theatres promptly and within agreed Service Level Agreements.

Respond to customer needs in the event of AV system failures within agreed Service Level Agreements. Analyse, diagnose and resolve AV faults in syndicate rooms and lecture theatres promptly and within agreed Service Level Agreements.

Record all faults and complaints for performance measurement purposes. Meet with customers to provide appropriate advice for forward planning for presentations and lectures, as requested by customers or directed line management.

Provide technical advice to lecturers and presenters in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations. Provide support to video conferencing facilities across the Defence Academy and book third party call bridging service as required.

Undertake planned preventative maintenance in syndicate rooms and lecture theatres, accurately recording all activity undertaken.

Set up and retrieve pool AV equipment, providing assistance and instruction when required. Carry out basic running repairs to ensure continuation of service.

Assist in maintaining reports of installed system configuration, software and hardware as well as all serial numbers. Monitor theatre activities either remotely from the central control room or the theatre control room, as directed by line management Instruct and train users on the correct use of AV and Video Conferencing facilities and equipment.

Provide video services, including recording of lectures and digitizing. Undertake maintenance and configuration of the IP Broadcast system, ensuring the facility meets the requirement of the customer.

Track and manage AV assets, utilising the TopDesk database, SharePoint, and other AV asset databases as appropriate. Ensure that safe working practices are followed in accordance with established risk and method statements and the Health and Safety at Work Acts.

Knowledge of current AV / IT technologies and practices. Cool under pressure, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.

Reliable, punctual and well organised. Be in possession of PASMA certificate, with the ability to work safely at heights of up to 5 meters using stepladders or a portable access tower.

Training available if required Demonstrate an awareness of the impact and benefits of convergence between audio visual and IT related technologies and disciplines.

Experience of Windows based PC support within a large networked environment. Additional features : There will occasionally be a requirement to work outside contracted support hours (0800-

1800) and over weekends for which overtime will be paid. SC Clearance It is a contractual obligation for all staff to wear the Serco uniform provided at all times when on duty.

Uniform should be kept clean, neat and tidy. Adhere to the Health and Safety Act (1974) within the areas of his / her responsibility A name badge is also provided and must be worn at all times on the left hand side of the jacket lapel / shirt pocket.

The DMR Security pass must be worn at all times on a Serco lanyard. There may be a requirement to use MOD provided vehicles on behalf of the MOD’s business either as a driver or passenger.
