Our client is a leading accountancy firm based in Stoke on Trent who are looking for an experienced Payroll Officer to join their team.

This is a stand-alone role, so requires a payroll professional who is used to working autonomously and who has payroll bureau experience in order to hit the ground running.

Job Description :

Duties for the Bureau Payroll Officer role include :

  • Obtaining gross pay and employee change details from clients
  • Accurately calculating gross pay from information on working hours and rates supplied by clients
  • Completely and accurately processing gross to net pay calculations for clients
  • Preparing payroll-related manual and computerised payments for clients
  • Advising clients on the amount and timescales for all payroll-related payments
  • Maintaining a cashbook for the client payroll account and reconciling it at least monthly to bank statements
  • Managing the client payroll account in compliance with ICAEW client money regulations
  • Preparing year-end PAYE / NIC and other payroll-related compliance returns for clients
  • Submitting payroll returns to HM Customs & Excise in compliance with filing deadlines
  • Assisting clients with, and advising clients on, payroll-related employer compliance matters
  • Managing client auto-enrolment and re-enrolment procedures
  • Preparing benefit-in-kind (P11D) returns for clients
  • Maintaining payroll processing software in accordance with developers' requirements
  • Raising fee notes for payroll processing in accordance with agreed terms of reference for the client
  • Providing advice and assistance to directors and other employees on payroll processing and compliance issues
  • For the Bureau Payroll Officer role, it would be good to see candidates with :

  • Experience in a similar payroll bureau role (operating more than one payroll)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PAYE / NIC practice and procedure (including benefits-in-kind)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of auto-enrolment practice and procedure
  • Capable of working with the minimum of supervision
  • Capable of consistently meeting deadlines
  • Effective team-worker
  • Good time management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good IT skills, especially in Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of company secretarial practice and procedure
  • Hours : Monday to Friday
