The Centre for Editing Lives and Letters (CELL) develops archive-based research projects of relevance to the period 1500 - 1800.

Book Owners Online (https : / / bookowners.online) is a freely available database building a directory of early modern book owners, with information on their libraries, to support the work of book historians, librarians, curators, collectors, dealers, and anyone interested in this field.

It was launched in 2020 after a period of funded editorial work and has since been developed with voluntary effort. A new grant makes it possible to continue the work of building and promoting the resource.

  • The post holder will augment the database with new entries for 18th-century English book owners; help to promote awareness of, and engagement with, the database amongst its potential user community;
  • support and encourage volunteers working on the database, and to liaise with any other editorial teams.This post is part-time, 0.

    5FTE, with funding for one year in the first instance.Key RequirementsApplicants should be educated to Master's degree level or equivalent, and require knowledge of the history and culture of early modern Europe and technical research skills, including data processing, and accuracy in observation / presentation of results.
